ABOUT THE JOB
The ACLU seeks a full-time position of Associate Director, Development Budget and Compliance in the Development Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Reporting to the Deputy Director, Nationwide Development Resources, Budget, and Compliance, the Associate Director, Development Budget and Compliance will manage Development’s monthly and annual budgeting and compliance planning and implementation. The candidate will be highly adept at navigating Excel and data systems to manage the inputs and outputs of ACLU’s complex fundraising budgeting and revenue sharing systems. With a high level of detail, you will help develop and produce reports that align our revenue projections and actuals to our fundraising strategies and operating budgets and illustrate performance and returns on investments. This role will also invest in understanding relevant Data and Privacy rules and policies, their impact on Development programs and investments, and how they inform recommendations for policy changes and compliance.
YOUR DAY TO DAY
Budget
- Develop and maintain live and monthly revenue reports, including revenue performance and budget reports at the team, department, national office, affiliate, and nationwide levels.
- Develop and maintain expense projections and actuals at the team and department level, and flag notable variances and trends.
- Help calculate the ACLU’s c3, c4, and planned giving cost factor projections and actuals, which are used to share nationwide revenue
- Collaborate with the Finance team to develop fundraising reports that reconcile with Finance’s operating budgets for the Finance Committee, the Executive Committee, and for our annual and mid-year budgeting process.
- Develop reports and processes to track restricted gift allocations and special revenue sharing.
Compliance
- Manage all procurement requests for the Development Department, ensuring a high level of transparency and clarity on all Development submissions.
- Serve as Development’s key point for all questions and follow up on procurement requests, pulling in key stakeholders as need. Manage and streamline all additional information gathering that is required to advance procurement requests.
- Serve as Development’s key point person for managing work with the ACLU’s Privacy & Data Governance team, including but not limited to creating workflows, convening key stakeholders, and identifying/workshopping potential solutions as necessary.
- Identify, socialize and, where necessary, mitigate downstream impacts of new or updated policies on the Development Department’s work.
- Manage meetings of and reporting to key stakeholders to provide clear status reports on procurement and privacy-related requests.
- Develop understanding of ACLU Board policies and guidance around privacy.
