Job Description

Purpose

The Senior Director of US Operations and Global Security Strategy will lead the development and implementation of an effective global security policy and strategy, and execution of our US security operations. This role will enhance physical security in the US and implement processes that enable the rapid identification and mitigation of risks. Additionally, the incumbent will provide leadership and drive process effectiveness through strategic direction, guidance and advise for AbbVie Global Security processes and service deliverables. The role operates under direction of the functional Vice President of Global Security and is located in Lake County, IL.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain the framework for internal security processes, driving internal alignment, efficiency, and governance in security operations and processes. Develop and direct enterprise-wide security strategy.
  • Provide strategic leadership in planning and implementation of Global Security core and future services, security programs, projects, and initiatives.
  • Lead Global Security team directly responsible for protecting headquarters and AbbVie, US sites, employees, and assets, including security systems, site risk mitigation and management, emergency response, crisis preparedness (per AbbVie program).
  • Drive manufacturing and Supply Chain Security activity in NC and AP (per AbbVie’s programs).
  • Advise, develop, and maintain strong relationships with AbbVie executive and senior leaders, as well as other key stakeholders. Act as a thought partner to Business leaders in anticipating risk, trends, disruptors, and strategy creation.
  • Responsible for identifying, developing, implementing, and maintaining security policies, procedures, standards, training, methods, strategies, and programs to prevent or mitigate company losses due to theft, misuse, vandalism, assault, product tampering, espionage, sabotage, or financial loss.
  • Lead innovation and continuous improvement, through the organization’s strategic planning, LRP, and annual Plan processes and develop, maintain, and present US Security metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Ensure that Global Security Governance & Strategy is complementary to company culture and values and will ensure that security policies are fully implemented across the business. Guide alignment of departmental objectives with Operations and AbbVie strategic objectives.
  • Drive a positive culture and engaged workforce and create an inclusive and equitable working environment.
  • Responsible for full annual budgetary control/discretion within approved annual budget.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Master’s or other relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in Security Management or an equivalent number of years and experience in a related field (e.g., Military, law enforcement, public or private sector security organization), with successive leadership roles and responsibility.
  • Experience should include a broad spectrum of responsibilities such as site security systems/ practices, workforce protection, supply chain security, business continuity, etc.
    Global experience including international security operations in key markets preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills, and the ability to lead, direct, and influence at senior levels in the organization.
    Motivational leader able to provide direction, build consensus and earn confidence and trust at all levels across diverse cultures.
    Demonstrate exceptional risk-based judgment and an executive presence.
  • Solid background of leading physical security programs at a corporate level and will have a proven track record in implementing systems that protect assets across a global organization.
    Persistent and resilient in the face of challenge and ambiguity. Remains calm under pressure.
    Ability to make high-stakes decisions (people, financial, business). Deals comfortably with risk and ambiguity.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to present to and influence senior and executive leadership.
  • Solid strategic planning and analytical skills as well as technical knowledge relevant to the position.
  • Prior success in talent and budget management.
  • Understanding of laws and regulations applicable to the biopharma industry preferred.

All Operations functions, BTS, HR, Communications, Finance, Legal, & OEC. External agencies at global, federal, state, & local levels including Law Enforcement, Emergency Management, first responders, & those engaged in public-private sector partnerships
