Director – Engineering, Maintenance, and Utilities

Position Summary
Manage and direct the activities of the Engineering, Maintenance, Validation, and Utilities Departments. This includes capital planning and execution, maintenance and reliability, energy management, process automation, utility operations, site security and facilities management. The colleague is a member of the Site Leadership team and drives key strategic initiatives to achieve site objectives for safety, quality, compliance, supply, and continuous improvement in support of Zoetis objectives, values, and leadership practices.
Position Responsibilities
- Direct and plan the development of objectives, long range plans, budgets and standards of service and performance for Engineering, Maintenance, Validation, and Plant Services Departments.
- Oversee the team that provides direct project management services of facility projects for new and/or renovations at the Charles City location, including design, construction and contract administrations; and assume responsibility for project execution, including coordination of technical, financial and human resources toward achievement of strategic goals, while maintaining financial compliance and adhering to company policy.
- Ensure that projects are designed and constructed in accordance with current regulations governing safety, environmental protection, energy conservation, APHIS, USDA, EU and other statutory considerations.
- Develop and maintain a Site Master Plan including evaluation of site capacity and utilization, capabilities, and technologies.
- Direct the Validation Department to comply with USDA and EU guidelines and assist the Manufacturing and QA/QC Divisions to assure performance of critical operations.
- Develop and implement plant maintenance policies and procedures for equipment and facilities.
- Develop and implement an effective reliability maintenance program to ensure the high availability of critical equipment.
- Manage site facilities and equipment, including building and equipment maintenance and spare parts supply, site security, pest control and other site services.
- Direct the Site Automation group to maintain, improve, and implement automation systems including manufacturing equipment, building management systems, and other systems critical to site operations.
- Direct the maintenance of facility, grounds and equipment for a multi-faceted, highly complex, three shift manufacturing operation in accordance with company and corporate policies.
- Serve as the Emergency Operations Director and as an active member of the Crisis Management Team for Zoetis, Charles City.
- Direct the security operations at Zoetis, Charles City.
- Provide leadership in effective communications, training and development of department staff consistent Zoetis leadership practices and values.
- Maintain technical skills in the latest techniques for project management and engineering technology as applied to facilities design construction and plant operation.
Education and Experience
- BA/BS with 15+ years of experience OR MBA/MS with 13+ years of experience.
- A working knowledge of cGMPs and facility/equipment validation requirements.
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the maintenance-engineering functions.
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience with demonstrated ability to prepare and administer budgets, develop long range operational plans and apply resources to accomplish projects on schedule.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of Zoetis global manufacturing, all levels of Zoetis Corporation, regulatory agencies, consultants, contractors and suppliers. Proficiency in presentation and negotiations.
- Demonstrated ability to function and influence in a team matrix environment and have excellent interpersonal, planning and management skills.
- Good overall understanding of environmental standards, APHIS, USDA and EU regulatory requirements
- Demonstrated experience with GMPs and facility/equipment/process validation.
- Proficiency in English, both written and oral.
- Computer proficiency with email; internet/online training; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; familiarity with manufacturing software programs.
- Training in leadership/management techniques consistent with Zoetis values and leadership practices.
- Working knowledge of environmental compliance.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to walk or stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to reach above shoulder level, bend/stoop, kneel, push/pull, and handle/grip frequently.
- Must be comfortable working in varying temperatures.
- Must be able to work scheduled 40 hours with the ability to work overtime as needed.
- Frequent lifting and carrying of 5 to 25 lbs.
- Regular reaching, bending, stooping, and twisting.
- Repetitive motion and substantial movement of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
