Job Summary
The Finance Director will lead all financial planning and operations, ensuring the fiscal health of the organization while aligning financial management with strategic goals. This role requires expertise in nonprofit financial stewardship, and a strong understanding of healthcare billing and insurance reimbursement processes relevant to behavioral health services.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting
- Develop, manage, and oversee the annual organizational budget and forecasting process
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for the Leadership Team and Board of Directors.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Monitor and report on financial performance, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Manage Cash Flow and Accounts Payable Process
- Oversee banking and credit card services/relationships and platform management
Insurance Reimbursement & Revenue Cycle
- Oversee the billing and collections process through the Billing and Accounting Manager and Third Party Revenue Cycle Management support for private insurers.
- Work with Third Party Revenue Cycle Management Support and Clinical/Medical Team to ensure compliance with payer guidelines, coding requirements, and billing regulations
- Work closely with clinical and administrative teams to help families and participants maximize insurance authorizations and coverage and reduce denials.
- Monitor accounts receivable and collaborate with billing staff to improve revenue cycle performance.
Compliance
- Coordinate audits, including preparation of documentation and communication with auditors.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations, including IRS and nonprofit reporting standards (e.g., Form 990).
Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise finance and billing staff, promoting ongoing professional development.
- Manage outsourced financial relationships.
- Serves as backup for Billing and Accounting Manager tasks as needed.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with program managers and leadership to align financial planning with organizational goals.
- Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and participate in strategic planning initiatives.
Requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit or healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of insurance reimbursement processes, including behavioral health payer systems.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience managing audits, budgets over $2M, and complex funding streams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
