Job Description

The Sr. Manager, Payroll, will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end payroll operations for our US and global workforce. This leadership role requires a deep understanding of Payroll management, compliance, process optimization, and the ability to scale payroll systems in a growing organization. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing complex payroll operations, building scalable business processes, and leading a team to deliver accurate, timely, and compliant payroll to employees.

What you'll get to do:

  • Lead and manage the Payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for multi-state HQ and Retail employees (both salaried and hourly, inclusive of commissions and bonuses).
  • Drives the strategy and success of larger projects which contribute to multiple areas of the organization. Identifies and solves complex, operational, and organizational problems leveraging the appropriate resources within or outside the department.
  • Works on issues where analysis of situations and/or data requires conceptual thinking and an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives. Implements policies and selects methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • Develop and implement scalable payroll processes and systems to support the company’s growth, including identifying opportunities for automation and improved efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including tax laws, wage and hour requirements, and international payroll compliance.
  • Collaborate with People & Culture, Finance, Info Security, and Technology teams to integrate payroll with other HRIS, timekeeping, and financial systems to improve data accuracy and streamline operations.
  • Partner with People & Culture, Accounting and Legal colleagues to process bulk and/or special transactions, such as merit & promotional increases, benefits/401(k) deductions and equity exercises.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of Payroll professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Manage payroll reporting and analysis, providing insights on labor costs, headcount, and other key metrics to People & Culture leadership.
  • Oversee the administration of company allowances and one-time payments (e.g., spot bonuses, as well as garnishments and other deductions in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for escalated payroll inquiries and transactions, resolving issues with speed and accuracy while maintaining an elevated level of customer service for employees.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of payroll-related taxes and reports, including year-end reporting, W-2s, 1095Cs, and other statutory filings.
  • Continuously monitor industry trends and best practices to ensure payroll operations are competitive, innovative, and aligned with business objectives.

Qualifications

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 10+ years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 7 years in a managerial or leadership role.
  • Strong people management skills that are aligned with Vuori's values and competencies
  • Typically manages through associate managers / managers or more senior level individual contributors that report into them and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll systems, payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and benefits administration. Proven ability to scale payroll processes and manage payroll for a large and diverse workforce.
  • Experience with payroll and timekeeping systems such as Workday, ADP, UKG, or similar mid to enterprise-level platforms. Experience with workforce management software is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve payroll discrepancies, perform audits, and analyze payroll data for accuracy and consistency. Ability to proactively address issues before they escalate and recommend process improvements for long-term efficiency. Detail-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills to effectively communicate payroll-related information to a variety of stakeholders. Ability to explain complex payroll concepts and policies clearly and concisely, while also facilitating training and presentations on payroll processes and compliance.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop a high-performing Payroll team.
  • Knowledge of international payroll processes and experience managing Payroll in multiple jurisdictions is a plus.

The salary range for this role is $140,000 per year - $175,000 per year. This role is bonus eligible.
