About the job

Twilio seeks a visionary leader to guide the development of key systems within Phone Numbers and Compliance areas of our product portfolio. This role will drive strategic initiatives, ensuring our products are robust, scalable, and aligned with Twilio’s commitment to innovation and customer trust. As a senior leader, you will shape the future of our architecture, influence cross-functional teams, and set the standard for excellence across multiple engineering teams.Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Define and drive the strategic vision for Twilio’s architecture, ensuring alignment with business goals and industry best practices.
  • Lead and mentor a team of high-performing architects and engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure world-class reliability, scalability, and security for all the products we build.
  • Mentor other architects and engineers on the team throughout their journey.
  • Influence and guide architectural and product decisions, balancing long-term vision with immediate business needs
  • Represent Twilio as a thought leader in the industry, contributing to forums, conferences, and partnerships.

Required:

  • 15–20 years of relevant industry experience, including 5+ years in senior architecture roles
  • Extensive leadership experience in scalable architecture, including a proven track record of leading large, cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to set technical direction and lead organizations through complex architectural transformations.
  • Experience designing scalable and resilient enterprise-grade platforms and applications
  • A recognized thought leader with a demonstrated ability to set strategic direction and execute with a bias for action.
  • Skilled at balancing long-term strategies with short-term business priorities, enabling pragmatic and sustainable solutions.
  • Proven ability to design scalable, secure, and fault-tolerant systems iteratively and evolutionarily.
  • Strong experience improving quality and operational processes, commitment to implementing best engineering practices across the organization.
  • Deep cloud expertise with hands-on experience in cloud ecosystems (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure), preferably in AWS.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively articulate architectural concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong collaborator, able to influence and build productive relationships across engineering, product, and business teams.
  • Passionate about enabling other architects and engineers through leadership, mentoring, and driving efficient, well-informed decision-making.
  • Skilled at articulating and sharing the vision with customers and synthesizing their business needs to influence strategy and future direction. 

Location

This role will be remote, but is not eligible to be hired in San Francisco, CA, Oakland, CA, San Jose, CA, or the surrounding areas.

Travel 

We prioritize connection and opportunities to build relationships with our customers and each other. For this role, you may be required to travel occasionally to participate in project or team in-person meetings

Compensation

*Please note this role is open to candidates outside of California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington D.C., and Washington State. The information below is provided for candidates hired in those locations only.

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:

  • Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont or Washington D.C. : $245,800.00-$308,200.00
  • Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $260,200.00-$325,300.00
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $289,100.00-$361,400.00
  • This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are generally eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
