We’re seeking a Principal Software Engineer who has led, built, and architected large-scale systems—and who wants to stay active in the field. Whether you’re retired, semi-retired, or seeking flexible work on your terms, we’re creating space for high-impact contributors who bring strategic insight and deep technical experience.

You’ll contribute to architectural decisions, critical design reviews, and mentor teammates—all while helping shape a rapidly evolving technical landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on system architecture and technical planning for distributed, high-performance platforms.
  • Contribute selectively to projects where your expertise drives clarity and quality.
  • Serve as a trusted mentor and advisor to engineers across the organization.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and performance issues.
  • Share strategic insights on system evolution, security, and infrastructure scale.
  • Stay current with relevant tools and paradigms in distributed systems and secure development.
  • 20+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on scalable systems and technical leadership.
  • Proficiency in systems programming (Rust preferred; C++, Go, or similar experience welcome).
  • Familiarity with parallel computing and performance optimization (OpenMP, CUDA, MPI, etc.).
  • Demonstrated mentoring and team leadership throughout your career.
  • Able to work independently and asynchronously in a remote-first environment.
  • U.S.-based; authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience in HPC or HTC computing environments.
  • Familiarity with ISO 27001, NIST SP 800-171/223, or secure computing standards.
  • Previous affiliation with a top-tier academic or research institution.
  • Interest in mentoring rising engineers and passing on technical wisdom.
  • Fully remote U.S. role with flexible scheduling options.
  • Part-time, reduced-load, or full-time arrangements available.
  • Competitive compensation for experience and contribution level.
  • High-impact work with real-world applications.
  • Opportunity to mentor and guide a talented, growing engineering team.
  • Health benefits and 401K plan (available for eligible employment status).
  • Unlimited PTO (with manager approval).
