Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE
The Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Mechanical is the main point of contact for mechanical operations and is responsible for all aspects of data center operations related the operation, maintenance, and repair of all mechanical related critical environment systems. This lead role will help set the standard of mechanical operations with an unwavering attitude and commitment to safety and reliability within the Data Center. The SME – Mechanical will drive continual improvements to the operational excellence of the data center by leading by example by adhering to company standards and industry best practices. They will have a mindset of ongoing learning and development and will be responsible for daily hands-on training and development of the critical facility technicians. As a member of the company’s Facilities team, the SME – Mechanical will be responsible for providing field level technical expertise.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Working with the T5 on-site technicians, mechanical contractors, design & engineering teams, construction personnel, and customer chief engineers to ensure the ongoing operation, maintenance, and repair of all mechanical systems, the installation of updates, and the functionality of all mechanical alarms and notification
- Development of detailed emergency, maintenance, and drill procedures (in conjunction with the Engineering team)
- Adherence to all quality, health & safety, and environmental policies within the Data Center domain
- Follow up and close out of all Mechanical issues raised by the Engineering Team through daily shift reports and CMMS open WO’s
- Maintain all Mechanical equipment to ensure optimal operation and availability
- Develop and keep up to date all site Mechanical related procedures including EOPs, SOPs, MOPs and Training Drills. All documentation should be consistent with current T5 and client standards
- Supervision of Mechanical drill and scenario training aids
- Generation of technical reports detailing the activities and issues relevant to the Data Center domain
- Provide site specific Mechanical training to the Engineering Team
- Assist in the development and training of technicians on Mechanical related issues
- Liaise closely with the client engineers regarding day-to-day issues & improvements/solutions to the operation of the Mechanical plants
- Report health and safety breaches through the site process
- Ensure the professional image of the client and T5 is always presented to staff and visitors.
- Undertake other tasks as defined and requested by local T5 site management
- Develop a good working relationship with all members the client staff and representatives
- Communicate any lessons learned from project implementations and highlight them to the site team to ensure measures are put in place to avoid these for future deployments
- Ensure the provision of a Safe and Healthy working environment; to include the appropriate PPE as required
- Adhere to all relevant US safety laws and T5 and client safety policies and protocol
- Complete other such duties consistent with your role as you may be assigned by T5 leadership team
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) or equivalent experience, required
- 5-7+ years’ experience in mission critical environments (data center, healthcare, high-performance manufacturing, oil/gas production, etc.), with a heavy emphasis on mechanical systems and operations
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND COMPETENCIES
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required for working effectively with Facility Ops Manager (FOM), team members, vendors, and customers on a daily basis
- Exceptional written technical proficiency to support the creation and revision of process documentation (MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs)
- Above average problem-solving and analysis skills for evaluating a situation, identifying solutions, and working with leadership and teammates to resolve
- Embraces a team-based mentality by building positive morale and team spirit, supporting teammates efforts to succeed, and recognizing teammates accomplishments
- Able to function effectively and maintain focus in high-pressure situations
- Has a “can-do” customer service attitude who is conscientious and takes personal pride in their work
