The Role

SSGA is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking Global Head of Research to lead the firm’s global research agenda and investment thought leadership. This role is central to shaping SSGA’s market perspectives, supporting product innovation, and delivering actionable insights that empower our institutional and intermediary clients to make informed investment decisions.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the development of global market outlooks, long-term investment themes, and portfolio implementation ideas that drive client engagement and business growth across active, index, and ETF strategies. A key part of the role will involve close collaboration with Product, Investment, and Client facing teams to ensure research is aligned with client needs and SSGA’s go-to-market strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Research Leadership

  • Define and lead SSGA’s global research agenda, integrating macroeconomic, policy, market, and behavioral insights across asset classes.

  • Produce and oversee research on long-term secular trends (e.g., inflation regimes, monetary policy shifts, deglobalization, climate risk) to support portfolio positioning and client advice.

Thought Leadership & Client Impact

  • Act as a lead spokesperson on global investment themes, market outlooks, and portfolio construction ideas via written publications, client briefings, conferences, and media.

  • Partner with institutional relationship managers, consultants, and client executives to deepen engagement and provide customized research support.

  • Help elevate the SPDR brand through research-backed content and educational tools tailored to financial advisors and wealth platforms.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with SSGA’s Investment, ESG, Product, and Distribution teams to ensure alignment of research insights with client needs and business priorities.

  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders (e.g., portfolio strategists, CIOs, marketing leads) to shape content pipelines, product narratives, and campaign strategy.

  • Ensure integration of ESG, risk, and factor-based insights into research where relevant.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop a high-performing global team of strategists, economists, and research professionals.

  • Foster a collaborative, client-focused culture rooted in SSGA’s fiduciary values and commitment to stewardship.

  • Uphold editorial and analytical rigor across all research output.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of investment research, macro strategy, or portfolio strategy experience in a global asset management or institutional advisory context.

  • Proven success in developing and communicating market insights to support investment, product, and client-facing teams.

  • Deep understanding of institutional client needs and portfolio construction across active, index, and ETF solutions.

  • Strong communicator with a demonstrated ability to translate complex ideas into impactful, client-friendly content.

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrixed global organization.

  • Advanced degree in Finance, Economics, or related field; CFA preferred.

Salary Range:

$170,000 - $282,500 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
