Life Cycle Engineers are traditionally responsible for providing in-service technical support of Defence products to ensure their safe, reliable, cost effective and disruption free operation. Within the future programmes team in Bristol (GCAP), they bring a strong customer and engineering focus to influence the design and to affect the maturity of the product across the life cycle to meet customer and business needs to ensure Design Intent is met.
The EHM aspect covers the SATAA model – Sense (monitoring and sensing on the product), Acquire (capturing the data), Transfer (accessing the data) , Analyse (interrogating the data) & Act (taking action on the interrogated data).

What you will be doing
- Equipment Health Management engineers are primarily responsible for leading and integrating the development of end-to-end EHM systems and services, either on-platform or ground-based systems, to help our customers maintain a safe, reliable and cost effective operation.
- Ensure compliance with requirements specified by regulatory authorities and to adhere to technical and business requirements of internal & external stakeholders.
- Identify, define, elicit, document and manage requirements for Equipment Health Management systems
- Identify, investigate and resolve in-service technical issues (e.g. queries and operational arisings), lead the investigation of operational issues to establish root cause and introduce containment / corrective actions as required.
- Manage any issues that affect the Maturity, Lifecycle Cost, Reliability and Maintainability and maintain Design Intent.
- Prepare and deliver technical communications (e.g. presentation and/or reports) to platform provider, regulators, customers and internal stakeholders.
- Develop and approve the technical content of publications /communications including acceptance limit development.
- Provide technical surveillance and quality assurance audits to support continuous product enhancement for customer satisfaction and business expectation.
- Identify cost reduction opportunities by reviewing and maintaining life cycle engineering policies and any associated maintenance planning documentation.
- Influence new product design with in-service experience and develop support strategies across the product lifecycle to suit customer and business requirements.
- Working with partners and Lead System Integrators to deliver integrated EHM solutions
- Utilising Model Based Systems Engineering to develop complex and integrated EHM solutions
- Ensuring EHM solutions support Rolls-Royce’s strategy for electrification and pioneering digital transformation in Defence
- Keeping abreast of related technology developments across all aspects of SATAA and liaising with University Technology Centres (UTCs), developing roadmaps to leverage low Technology Readiness Level (TRL) capability
- This is a highly challenging, varied and interesting role with a strong customer and engineering focus.
- In addition, you will contribute to the development of after-market and support strategy around business, product, customer and industrial relationships, co-ordinate and monitor specified packages of work within a given budget and represent the company and actively participate in a team on or off site to achieve deliverables.

To be successful in the role you will need to have:
- You will be qualified to degree level or equivalent in a STEM subject and with experience in a relevant engineering environment (Mechanical, Aeronautical, Electrical or Controls).
- A broad understanding of Gas Turbine physical & functional characteristics, and familiarity of the in-service operation environment, including regulatory and compliance requirements, would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of components/ systems functionality and numerical methods.
- Experience of working on complex tasks that are novel and ambiguous.
- You will be expected to take the lead in identifying project requirements, specifying and executing packages of work so experience in supporting/leading cross-functional teams (e.g. specialists, suppliers, customers, partners) is desirable
