Job Description

We are looking for a skilled and innovative Digital Ink Handwriting Tech Engineer to join our mission of transforming modern education. You’ll play a key role in developing next-generation handwriting algorithms that power digital writing experiences across educational tablets and eInk devices. If you’re passionate about writing tech, human-device interaction, and pushing the boundaries of how we learn, this role is for you.

Location: Remote

Type: Contractual (1 year)

you’ll be responsible for —

  • Designing and implementing advanced algorithms to enhance freeform handwriting on tablets and eInk surfaces, prioritizing low latency, accuracy, and responsiveness.
  • Optimizing digital ink systems for improved palm rejection, stylus pressure sensitivity, and realistic pen strokes.
  • Researching, testing, and iterating on new handwriting recognition techniques and tactile feedback features.
  • Collaborating closely with hardware engineers, product teams, and UI/UX designers to ensure cohesive integration between software and device hardware.
  • Debugging and resolving performance bottlenecks related to writing systems across platforms.
  • Staying ahead of trends and innovations in handwriting tech and applying relevant advancements to the learning products.

you need —

  • A strong foundation in digital handwriting technologies, including knowledge of the software and algorithmic approaches used in modern writing interfaces.
  • 3–6 years of software engineering experience, ideally focused on digital input systems, graphics processing, or real-time interaction layers.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used for low-latency graphics and algorithm development (e.g., C++, Python, or Swift).
  • Familiarity with hardware-software interaction, particularly for stylus and touch-based interfaces.
  • Strong debugging, profiling, and optimisation skills for performance-critical applications.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work cross-functionally with product, design, and hardware teams.

bonus points for —

  • Prior work on handwriting or sketch-based applications.
  • Open-source contributions or academic research in the field of digital writing or signal processing.
  • Experience working on eInk-based devices or other latency-sensitive input surfaces.
