ABOUT THE POSITION

Orthopaedic Associates of Muskegon (OAM) is seeking a M.A. to join our clinical team. The Medical Assistant (M.A.) is a multi-skilled health professional who works independently, yet under the direction of a Supervising R.N. or physician, to provide quality health care to the patients of Orthopaedic Associates of Muskegon (OAM). Must have the ability to perform both clinical and clerical tasks. Position will include both yet not be limited to either.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Greets patients and escorts them to exam rooms.

· Assists in the completion of any forms/histories as needed.

· Measures and records vital signs for inclusion in patient’s records.

· Maintains accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.

· Provides patients with basic information and instruction regarding procedures.

· Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for labs/tests, etc.

· Phones prescriptions to pharmacy if so needed.

· Preparing and administering medications with R.N./physician authorizations.

· Assisting physicians with exams and minor office procedures.

· Changes dressings, applying bandages, removing sutures and other first aid procedures.

· Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments/patient exam rooms and observes principles of sterile technique in performing duties.

· Disposes of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards.

· Practices OSHA safety standards.

· Using Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) skills if required.

· Inventories and stocks supply. 

· Orders supplies if so directed.

· Follows appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct.

· Attends scheduled meetings with Supervisor, Administration, or physicians to keep apprised of changes.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

· Assist patients with transfer to and from, as well as assist with light hygiene of patients 

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS

1. Must possess basic computer skills.

2. Must be able to multi-task.

3. Must possess strong listening, verbal, and communication skills.

4. Must be people oriented with the ability to deal with patients who may be anxious and fearful.

5. High school education.

6. Graduate of accredited Medical Assistant (M.A.) program.

7. Preferred M.A. licensure/certification.

8. CPR Certification

9. Maintain CEU requirements of licensure/certification.

10. Experience preferred, but willing to train appropriate fit.
