Department Overview

The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations.   The Clinical RN’s care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics.  The Clinical RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, practitioner, and knowledge transferor [O’Rourke Model of the Professional Role™].  Professional accountability enriches the Clinical RN’s engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork.  The Clinical Nurse exemplifies the principles of a Culture of Safety by committing to a Just Culture, a Reporting Culture, Learning Culture, and an Engaged Informed Culture.

Function/Duties of Position

Doernbecher 9N pediatric nurses provide high-quality innovative and compassionate family-centered care for pediatric patients ages newborn to 18 years. Services that admit to Doernbecher 9N include and not limited to General Surgery, ENT, Urology, Gastroenterology, Orthopedics, Cardiology, and Endocrinology.

Required Qualifications

• External applicants: Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Degree from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
• Internal ONA applicants: Associate's Degree in Nursing
• Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
• BLS and PALS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) 
• BLS and PALS must not expire during orientation or probation period
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years inpatient pediatric RN experience
• Pediatric psychiatric experience

New Grads: Please apply within 90 days of your graduation date.

 

Length of Orientation  

• New Graduate Nurse new to profession or with <1 year of experience:

Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Residency Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for about 10-12 weeks depending on the care area with an employment service agreement. 

• Experienced Nurse (Fellowship or Specialty Fellowship) with >1 year of experience:

Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Learning Pathway or Orientation experience individualized to the candidate between 2-14 weeks.
