The Diabetes Operating Unit focuses on improving the lives of those within the global diabetes community. This role will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS policies, systems, and culture across all global operations. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring a safe and compliant workplace while driving sustainability, risk reduction, and regulatory adherence throughout the organization.

This position is an exciting opportunity to work with Medtronic's Diabetes business. Medtronic has announced its intention to separate the Diabetes division to promote future growth and innovation within the business and reallocate investments and resources across Medtronic, subject to applicable information and consultation requirements. This separation provides our team with a bold opportunity to unleash our potential, enabling us to operate with greater speed and agility. As a separate entity, we anticipate leveraging increased investments to drive meaningful innovation and enhance our impact on patient care.

This role requires you to work on-site at least 3 days per week at one of our US hubs: Northridge, CA, Juncos, PR, San Antonio, TX, Duluth, GA, or Minneapolis, MN. This on-site presence is vital for collaboration and maintaining strong team connections. Please be aware that the hybrid schedule may change based on business needs, potentially requiring additional on-site days.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Develops, administers and implements environmental, health, and safety programs in accordance with governmental requirements.

  • Global Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations in countries of operation (e.g., OSHA, EPA, REACH, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).Conducts studies and prepares environmental impact reports for new construction projects, plant processes and permit changes.
    • Reviews and analyzes environmental documentation issued by regulatory agencies; collaborates with regulatory agencies to determine corrective action plans.
    • Evaluates proposed regulations to determine financial, industrial, public and environmental impact.
    • Interacts with regulatory bodies to resolve compliance issues; establishes permit requirements and assists in regulatory audits.
    • Represents the Company in government and industry rule-making activities.
    • Ensures appropriate corrective action is taken where environmental, health, and safety hazards exist.
    • Identifies and takes corrective action against activities that pose potential threats to workers’ health or safety, which may include recommending organizational measures to protect workers’ safety through revised methods, processes, or materials; inspecting workplace environments, equipment, and/or practices to ensure compliance with standards and regulations; and investigating and/or identifying causes regarding filed incidents.
  • Program Development: Lead the design and rollout of global safety programs, environmental stewardship initiatives, and risk management systems.
  • Culture & Engagement: Foster a proactive safety culture, promoting employee engagement, behavioral safety, and shared ownership of EHS performance.
  • Metrics & Reporting: Establish and track KPIs, perform root cause analyses of incidents, and deliver regular reports to executive leadership.
  • Audit & Risk Management: Lead internal audits, manage EHS risk assessments, and oversee corrective action plans.
  • Sustainability Leadership: Support environmental initiatives, such as carbon reduction, water conservation, waste management, and regulatory sustainability disclosures.
  • Team Development: Lead and mentor a global EHS team, supporting site-level leaders and building regional capabilities.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field and minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience
  • Or, Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field and minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience

Nice to Have: 

  • Broad management and leadership knowledge to lead multiple job areas, and detailed functional and operational expertise
  • 7+ years of experience in Master Data Management or related operational roles
  • Deep knowledge of global EHS regulations, risk management, and compliance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success leading global EHS programs in a manufacturing, logistics, or industrial setting.
  • Experience with EHS management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001) and digital EHS platforms.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Travel

  • Ability to travel up to 20% - 30% of time

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$168,000.00 - $252,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
