Business Operations Lead
Job Description
Our company
Meadow is a contemporary funeral service reshaping an outdated, predatory industry. Founded from personal experiences by experienced entrepreneurs, we offer transparent pricing, unmatched hospitality, and personalized memorials hosted at top venues.
You probably didn’t picture yourself working at a funeral home startup—just like those who joined Uber or DoorDash didn’t plan careers in taxis or food delivery. You might think this category is boring or depressing. Most people do. That’s exactly why it’s outdated—and why we get to rewrite the story. A once-in-a-lifetime shift in deathcare is happening now, and Meadow—a software-powered, hospitality-first service—is meeting the moment. Reinvention takes people willing to bet on something big and unexpected.
We handle all arrangements online or by phone, making the process easier. Deathcare today is too expensive and too complicated: our mission is to transform every aspect to better serve families across America.
We now serve a meaningful share of each of our markets and have secured significant funding to expand. One of our biggest surprises has been how powerful and inspiring it is to serve families at their time of need.
What is the role?
Be our Growth Operator alongside the CEO and leadership team. You’ll make sure our financial and operational basics are solid, turn data into clear insights, and lead the projects that move us forward. You’ll join proven operators who value strong analytical and commercial instincts.
This is a high-trust, high-impact role for someone who thrives in ambiguity, thinks in systems, and moves fast. You’ll build real career optionality—whether you want to grow into finance and ops leadership or step into a general management role.
You’ll drive impact across three main areas:
1. Run a Healthy Foundation (20%)
Manage our outsourced accountant, handle AP/AR, and ensure “keep-the-lights-on” processes deliver accurate, trusted data.
2. Turn Data into Decisions (30%)
Own forecasts, unit economics, and core KPIs. Translate numbers into clear insights, guide every leader on priorities, and hold teams accountable.
3. Drive Growth and Outcomes (50%)
Lead and execute key projects end-to-end—define timelines, remove blockers, run our “rhythm of the business,” and push initiatives that move the needle. This means working across the entire business.
You’ll help answer the hard questions: Should we launch this? Where’s the margin? What could add more growth? Then turn answers into real action.
What you’ll drive in your first year:
3 Months: Build the foundation and start taking action
Upgrade our forecast to increase clarity on the key levers of the business
Upgrade our accounts payable / vendor management workflows to drive efficiency and decision-making with unique industry demands
Take full ownership of cash ops; ensure clean, smooth execution.
6 Months: Drive Improvements
Drive our process to expand markets and customer/product segments
Keeper of our unit economics: end-to-end responsibility of how much margin we make and why
Meadow and our team work better because you are here
We’re looking for someone who:
Is Commercially Sharp: Combines real analytical rigor with strong business instincts.
Thrives in Ambiguity: Cuts through noise to find a path forward.
Moves extraordinarily fast but thinks in systems.
Earns Trust Quickly: A strong cross-functional partner who collaborates with clarity and credibility.
Good indicators that you'll thrive in this role include:
Acting with very high agency and driving significant impact in prior roles.
Built or materially improved a core business system.
Created financial models that shaped executive decisions.
Backgrounds We Think Might Fit:
2+ years at a top VC, investment bank, or consulting firm and 2+ years of operating experience at a startup or growth-stage company.
A track record of creating systems or models that shaped high-impact decisions
High agency and comfort solving open-ended problems.
Builder's mindset: can create, own, and transition processes as the company scale
Why Join us?
Mission-driven work: We help families through one of life’s hardest moments — honoring and celebrating lives. If that speaks to you, speak to us.
Clear momentum: We’re one of the largest providers of cremation in California, and have a serious (undisclosed) amount of money.
Real ownership: You'll shape the future of the business, not just execute tasks.
Career growth: Build deep skills across finance, ops, and strategy; unlock GM-level career paths.
Competitive comp and benefits: Strong salary, meaningful equity, and generous health, dental, and vision coverage.
