Sr. Cost Engineer
Job Description
As a Sr. Engineer, Cost Engineering, you will join our high-caliber Cost Engineering team at Lucid Motors. In this role, you'll leverage your deep expertise in cost modeling to create detailed should-cost analyses for components and assemblies across our entire product portfolio. This isn't just about crunching numbers – we need someone who can dive deep into manufacturing processes, understand cost drivers, and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to identify and capture value. Your analytical rigor and business acumen will directly impact our bottom line and competitive position in the market.
Responsibilities
You Will:
- Develop Detailed Cost Estimates: Utilize Engineering BoM information, engineering drawings, computer-aided design (CAD) models, costing systems, and physical parts to generate precise piece price and tooling cost estimates inclusive of product, direct, and indirect costs.
- Teardown and Analysis: Perform or support teardown of complex automotive components to analyze parts and develop a Bill of Materials (BoM). When detailed engineering data is not available, create cost estimates using physical parts and in-depth process knowledge.
- Value Analysis and Engineering: Support Value Analysis and Value Engineering activities by identifying cost-saving opportunities within designs and manufacturing processes.
- Supply Chain: Partner with Global Supply Managers (GSMs) to evaluate supplier pricing and cost structures, assess deviations between actual costs and cost estimates, identifying variances, opportunities for negotiation and cost reduction to achieve optimal sourcing outcomes.
- Product Development & Engineering: Partner with engineering teams to utilize cost estimates and cost models to evaluate design choices, assess cost implications, and ensure alignment with budgetary constraints and target cost objectives.
You Bring:
- Manufacturing Process Expertise: Knowledge and expertise of specific manufacturing processes relevant to the automotive industry, including cycle time calculations, tooling requirements, and prototype and production cost drivers.
- Mechanical Expertise: Machining, Stamping (Progressive, Transfer, Stage, Hot Stamping), Injection Molding (Conventional, Over Molding, Multi-Shot, Insert, Compression, Reaction Foam, Structural Foam, Blow, and Gas Assisted), Casting (Die, Sand, and Investment), Forging, Extrusions, Roll Forming, etc.
- Electrical Expertise: Wiring and Harnesses, Printed Circuit Board Assemblies, Electro-Mechanical Systems (Motors, Actuators), Magnets, Power Electronics (IGBT’s, MOSFETs), Lighting (LED Manufacturing), Connectors and Terminals, Sensors, Cable and Conduit, etc.
- Cost Modeling: Proven experience in developing and utilizing complex cost models, integrating engineering data, manufacturing process knowledge, and supplier quotations.
- Engineering Design Understanding: Strong engineering skills to interpret CAD models, understand engineering design drawings, and extract key cost-related information for accurate cost estimation.
- Cost Modeling Tool Proficiency: Experience utilizing cost modeling tools like aPriori, CostData, Siemens Product Cost Management, FACTON, or similar or indexes consulted to create cost models.
- Financial Proficiency: Knowledge of interpreting financial reporting and market trends that influence product costs and the ability to adjust estimates based on economic factors and conditions.
- CAD Proficiency: Proficiency in using CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) to analyze and interpret component designs, contributing to cost estimates and process optimization.
- Communication: Proficient in clearly conveying complex cost-related insights to diverse audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders, through verbal, written, and visual means.
Qualifications
We recognize cost estimation talent comes through many paths and encourage any of the below qualifications to apply:
Required
- Minimum of 5+ Years Experience in cost estimation, modeling, procurement, or engineering disciplines
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or Finance.
