Job Summary

The coordinator for athletic communications serves as the primary media contact for various National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) athletics teams at Lindenwood University. The coordinator oversees all aspects of athletic communications for the position’s assigned sports, including but not limited to media relations, statistics, press releases and award nominations.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

Job Responsibilities and Execution

  • Oversees all media relations and press releases for assigned sports
  • Provides athletic results and statistical data to local, regional, and national media
  • Directs game day duties related to media relations and statistics for assigned sports; assists with other game-day duties
  • Exercises independent decision making and authority on athletic communications tasks and issues for assigned sports
  • Maintains the Athletics department website, roster and schedule for assigned sports
  • Provides requested information to the NCAA and various conferences
  • Researches aspects of the Athletics department’s history
  • Manages athletic and academic award nominations for assigned sports
  • Leads special feature story creation and production for staff and student-athletes

Service Excellence

  • Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity, and teamwork
  • Assists boosters, parents, and opposing teams by addressing inquiries and providing requested information

Communication, Teamwork, and Collaboration

  • Promotes student athletes to local and regional media
  • Assists with social media campaigns and video broadcasting
  • Leads effort to promote teams, stories and statistics by working closely with coaches Collaborates with athletic communications staff from other universities for game day information and media relations
  • Works with Athletics department administration towards departmental process improvement

Job may require other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, sports management, business, or other related field 
  • Prior experience in a collegiate athletics communications department or professional athletic environment preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all inclusive, of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Knowledge of basic video production
  • Knowledge of social media platforms, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, StatCrew statistical software, and web software
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Highly organized
  • Ability to multitask and maintain accuracy under multiple deadlines and priorities  
  • Strong attention to detail
