Job Description

Your Impact

As an AI Tutor, Coding Specialist, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of AI-assisted programming by evaluating and refining outputs from large language models (LLMs). You’ll apply your deep knowledge of software engineering, programming languages, and computer systems to ensure model-generated code is accurate, reliable, and educationally sound. This role sits at the intersection of AI, software development, and learning design—perfect for experienced engineers passionate about advancing cutting-edge technologies.

This is a remote, contract position with flexible time commitments. The services you provide are supplementary to Handshake’s core business operations but are vital to advancing our AI initiatives.

Your Role

  • Evaluate, debug, and improve AI-generated code in a variety of programming languages including Python, Rust, JavaScript, C/C++, Java, and Go.

  • Ensure code quality meets best practices for readability, performance, scalability, and correctness.

  • Curate coding problems, write clean reference implementations, and annotate model outputs.

  • Develop clear technical documentation to help models learn and replicate expert coding approaches.

  • Collaborate with AI researchers and engineers to identify code generation blind spots and annotation inconsistencies.

  • Stay up-to-date with modern software development practices and emerging AI tooling.

Your Experience

  • Advanced proficiency in English (written and verbal), especially for technical communication.

  • Proficient in at least one major programming language (Python, Rust, JavaScript, C/C++, Java, or Go) with a strong foundation in software engineering principles.

Bonus Expertise

  • 2+ years of professional experience in software development or systems engineering.

  • Familiarity with key tools and environments: SQL, Kubernetes, Spark, Kafka, gRPC, AWS, and related systems.

  • Contributions to open source or a strong profile on platforms like GitHub or StackOverflow.

  • Background in computer science competitions (e.g., ICPC, Codeforces).

  • Experience with prompt engineering or LLM-based development tools.

  • Teaching, mentoring, or curriculum development experience in computer science or software engineering.

  • Familiarity with AI model training pipelines or human-in-the-loop feedback systems.

Additional Requirements

  • Availability to work evenings or weekends, depending on project needs.

  • Adaptability to fast-paced, evolving workflows and guidelines.

  • Personal device must support Windows 10 or macOS Big Sur 11.0 or later.

  • Reliable smartphone access for two-factor authentication and secure login.

Location & Work Expectations
