Location:
New York, NYArchitectural Digest (AD), the international design authority, is looking for an enthusiastic, full-time team player to work with executive leadership to continue to grow its digital business in the US. The ideal candidate should have a detailed understanding of the design industry, its major players, and its audience. This editorial lead works closely with every part of the digital organization—including editorial, video, social, audience development, e-commerce, membership subscriptions, sales, and marketing—with a central focus on identifying and overseeing content that drives the design industry conversation forward while creating opportunities for new consumer and advertiser revenue.
Responsibilities:
Strategy and business:
Work with the brand Global Editorial Director and business leads to define and implement strategic digital positioning and programming, zeroing in on consumer revenue (subscriptions, memberships, e-commerce, experiential, and more) and advertising and licensing opportunities.
Editorial:
Oversee a team of digital editors to develop the concepts, packaging, and execution for all content across all digital platforms, including architecturaldigest.com, AD PRO, and the AD PRO Directory among others.
Lead as a design expert, translating that knowledge into creative, engaging, and viral content. Key areas of focus include cultural design news and features, design trends, exclusive home tours, celebrity real-estate coverage, and more.
Assign and top-edit daily digital output. Represent AD internally and externally as needed.
Management and operations:
Direct staff on the output of their sections, providing effective feedback, coaching, and direction.
Encourage talent growth and foster a transparent, respectful, inclusive, and collaborative team environment.
Maintain clear processes and communication channels, and serve as a resource for team members to help resolve challenges, improve outputs, and ensure work is happening in sync.
Effectively manage all HR/People processes for direct reports, including performance management, compensation reviews, recruitment, and more.
Manage ongoing editorial expenses and budgets.
Audience:
Work with audience development and editorial teams to refine and implement SEO, newsletter, and social media growth strategies for consumer and trade audiences, including engagement, audience-building tactics, and special initiatives.
Video:
Work with team leads to develop programming and channel strategies for O&O, YouTube, social, and syndication platforms.
Technical:
Work with the product team to determine implementation of site enhancements, fixes, & special programs.
Requirements:
7+ years of related experience in editorial or at a brand, with a minimum of 1-2 years as a top manager or similar.
Must have a passion for home decor and design, and a detailed understanding of the design industry, its major players, and its audience. Should have significant, deep experience interacting with/reporting on the design industry, with meaningful contacts.
A clear understanding of editorial strategy, from story idea to promotional plan, and how to use analytics and audience insights to refine tactics.
Excellent judgment, with a keen eye for developing storytelling that will differentiate AD.
Strong copywriting and line-editing skills.
Experience working with commercial partners to conceive and execute high-quality editorial packages that meet business needs toward sponsorship and membership goals.
Expert at staying organized to juggle multiple projects against tight deadlines, all while continuously advocating for creativity across the editorial team.
Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills.
The expected base salary range for this position is from $154,000-$182,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
