Position Title:  Vice President of Revenue

Classification:  Full Time Exempt

Reports To:  Chief Executive Officer and President

Position Summary: The Vice President of Revenue is a mission-driven, strategic leader responsible for maximizing and diversifying revenue streams that support the organization’s impact and long-term sustainability. This executive-level position oversees Tourism, Retail, Walking and Boat Tours, and Development (including membership) —working across earned income and philanthropic revenue to ensure a cohesive and growth-oriented strategy. The VP of Revenue will be a key member of the leadership team, guiding organizational priorities that align with the nonprofit’s values and mission. 


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Strategy, Vision, and Leadership:

  • Develop and implement an integrated revenue strategy that aligns earned income (retail and tours) with contributed income (development/fundraising).
  • Evaluate each revenue stream quarterly, providing reports and projects to implement changes and growth
  • Identify innovative opportunities to grow revenue while ensuring mission fidelity and community impact.
  • Partner with the CEO and executive team to align revenue operations with organizational strategy and budgeting processes. Close working relationship with Marketing, and CFOO&EVP to align financial systems.
  • Develop short and long-term financial plans, analyze, and forecast to assist the CEO & President and senior staff in setting strategic priorities and implementing initiatives within revenue areas. 
  • Serve as a strategic thinker and a pro-active financial leader with high emotional intelligence and excellent interpersonal skills.

Retail Operations

  • Oversee all aspects of physical and online retail operations, including merchandising, inventory, vendor relations, pricing, and customer service.
  • Leverage visitor data and retail trends to maximize profitability and mission alignment through product offerings.

Tours 

  • Lead the strategy and execution of guided tours and public-facing programs that generate revenue and deepen visitor engagement.
  • Ensure tours support the organization's educational mission while meeting revenue and attendance goals.
  • Periodic review of tour offerings to analyze performance and implement recommended changes to enhance mission and revenue

Development & Fundraising

  • Guide and coordinate the fundraising strategy including individual giving, major donors, grants, sponsorships, and corporate partnerships.
  • Work with the AVP of Development to cultivate a strong donor base and steward key relationships with funders, members and supporters.
  • Oversee capital campaigns and long-term development planning in partnership with the board and executive team.
  • Align annual development plan with organizational and annual priorities

Team Management & Organizational Leadership

  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary revenue team, fostering collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
  • Serve as a liaison between revenue departments and other functional areas (e.g., finance, communications, marketing, programming).

Data, Analysis, and Reporting

  • Use data to assess and improve program performance, track KPIs, and inform decision-making.
  • Prepare regular revenue forecasts and reports for the CEO, board, and other stakeholders.

  

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPA, or similar) or 10 years of equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in for-profit and      nonprofit revenue-generating roles.
  • Demonstrated success in managing and growing both earned and contributed income      streams.
  • Deep understanding of nonprofit operations, donor cultivation, and community engagement.
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience overseeing budgets and P&L statements.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and unify cross-functional teams.
  • Passion for mission-driven work and the ability to connect revenue strategies to impact.

  

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in a museum, cultural institution, visitor attraction, or similar environment.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit CRM and fundraising platforms (e.g., NetSuite, Ventrata, Tessitura).
  • Knowledge of retail merchandising and tourism trends in the nonprofit sector.
