The Oncology Thematic Research Center at BMS is a key research and early development engine, responsible for the discovery and development of novel oncology therapeutics for patients. Centered at our state-of-the-art research sites in Cambridge and Seattle, scientists focus on novel targets and pathways for tumors that are refractory to current therapies. With a deep understanding of the causal human biology, we are able to leverage our multiple modality platforms to best match the modality to the mechanism and desired outcome. We are a fully integrated drug discovery through translational and early clinical development organization which exploits state-of-the-art in vitro, in vivo and ex-vivo models of Cancer biology and Immuno-oncology to identify and validate targets. We partner closely with colleagues in Translational Medicine, Informatics and Predictive Sciences and Early Clinical Development to generate biomarker and patient enrichment hypotheses to enable efficient decision making in early clinical trials. We are optimally positioned to complement the world-class translational expertise, biology and leading academic research centers in the area.
Position Summary:
We are seeking an innovative and motivated immunologist to advance our portfolio of pioneering T cell engager therapeutics to treat cancers. The successful candidate will join the Discovery Biology Team within the Oncology Thematic Research Center at Bristol Myers Squibb in Seattle, WA. The qualified candidate will provide expertise in immunology and will join a multidisciplinary, groundbreaking team driving projects from discovery through IND. Using their knowledge in T cell immunology, the candidate will have the opportunity to identify and validate novel targets and design novel assay systems to enable next-generation engager cancer therapeutics. This scientist will work in a highly collaborative, dynamic, fast-paced environment involving multiple teams across the company.
Position Responsibilities:
In the role as a Senior Scientist within Discovery Biology, the ideal candidate will:
Identify and validate novel targets for development of T cell engagers.
Independently design, develop and execute novel in vitro and ex vivo cell-based assays/models to evaluate the efficacy and specificity of T cell engagers.
Apply knowledge of T cell biology to develop next-generation T cell engagers with improved efficacy and safety profiles.
Design and implement critical studies required to drive hypothesis-driven research.
Collaborate across multiple projects / roles in a matrixed environment.
Present complex concepts to a range of audiences including governance and full team project meetings.
Utilize excellent communication and interpersonal skills to drive collaboration and alignment with key stakeholders.
Experience =
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
6+ years of relevant academic and / or industry experience
Or
Master’s Degree
4+ years of relevant academic and / or industry experience
Or
Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences
2+ years of relevant academic and / or industry experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in immunology, immuno-oncology, tumor immunology, or a related field
2+ years of relevant academic and / or industry experience
Knowledge of T cell biology and relevant in vitro assay systems and experience with transformed tumor cells is strongly preferred.
Experience with technologies typically employed to engineer cell lines and assess immune cell function including but not limited to subset of CRISPR, RNAi, Luminex, MSD, IncuCyte-based assays, multi-parameter flow cytometry, T cell activation assays, T cell proliferation assays, imaging technologies.
Demonstration of hypothesis-driven, in-depth, innovative thinking and experimentation
Self-motivated and focused with project management-oriented thinking; able to work on multiple projects in a matrix environment
Ability to communicate well with peers, supervisors, and governance committees.
Strong problem-solving skills and understanding of complex scientific principles.
Requires strong organizational skills to ensure thorough and timely documentation of experiments, and preparation of data for compiling reports for both internal and external documents.
Experience with antibody drug discovery and target identification / validation is an advantage.
The starting compensation for this job is a range from $131,590 - $159,500, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).
The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
