Position Summary
Under the direction of the Deputy Director, the Events Supervisor leads the Events Team in providing the infrastructure that supports Ann Arbor District Library events, room bookings, exhibits, and major expos and offered by AADL.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned:
- Supervise members of the Events Team and support their work in providing the infrastructure for AADL Events.
- Appraise performance for the Events Team.
- Approves time records and authorizes overtime and leave requests for direct reports.
- Plans, assigns, and directs work, ensuring equitable and sensible work distribution among direct reports.
- Execute AADL’s curation strategy for events and exhibits.
- Reward and discipline staff; resolve problems, complaints, and grievances as necessary.
- Ensure that inclusivity is a high priority in the curation and scheduling of AADL events.
- Work cross-departmentally to help coordinate logistics associated with AADL expos.
- Communicate with staff in other departments and attend meetings when applicable.
- Oversee content coordination for AADL’s brochures.
- Answers questions about Library events from the public.
- Supports the Events Team with issues that arise with Library bookings.
- Track and analyze metrics and create reporting systems to measure aspects of library events.
- Maintain a prompt and reliable attendance record.
- Adhere to and promote the Library’s policies and procedures, and respond to and/or report all breaches as appropriate.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong project management skills including the ability to organize work, set priorities, and handle multiple tasks while maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience managing event-related tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Expert proficiency in working online with web-based information and team communication systems.
- Experience working as a part of a collaborative team with shared responsibilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong editing, grammar, and proofreading skills.
- Must be flexible and willing to work in situations with multiple deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate with Library staff throughout the organization.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse presenters and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong public service commitment and positive attitude.
Preferred Qualifications include:
- Experience implementing events in a library, non-profit, or institutional setting.
- Experience using Airtable.
- Familiarity with the work culture of the Ann Arbor District Library.
- Fluency in multiple languages.
