Job Description Summary

Summary:

The Business Intelligence Analyst plays a critical role on the University Advancement operations team, serving as a key liaison between end-users and Wake Forest University Advancement Systems. This position combines business analysis, CRM systems expertise, and data reporting skills to support strategic initiatives, drive operational efficiency, and empower Advancement staff in achieving the University's goals. The Analyst will work both directly with end-users to enhance their utilization of available resources and lead projects to develop and improve those resources.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for user inquiries, providing timely and effective responses to information requests, troubleshooting system issues, and sharing best practices for data and system utilization.
  • Provides guidance and support to Advancement staff in effectively using Advancement Systems to support their daily work and strategic objectives.
  • Manages complex queries, selections, and data exports within the advancement systems to fulfill data requests and generate targeted lists for various Advancement activities.
  • Collaborates with end-users to thoroughly understand their information needs and ensure that the systems effectively support their objectives.
  • Maintains data integrity within advancement systems by supporting data governance efforts and promoting data quality best practices.
  • Elicits, documents, analyzes, and validates business requirements from stakeholders through interviews, workshops, and other methods, aligning with University Advancement strategic goals.
  • Translates business requirements into clear, concise, and detailed functional and non-functional specifications for Business Intelligence (BI) and Advancement Information Technology (AIT) developers.
  • Manages the requirements lifecycle, ensuring traceability, consistency, and completeness.
  • Collaborates closely with BI and AIT teams throughout the development lifecycle, including participating in the design, development, testing, and validation of implemented solutions.
  • Communicates effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure alignment between business needs and technical solutions.
  • Generates and distributes regular reports (daily, weekly, monthly, and annual) to provide actionable insights into Advancement work within Advancement, and to other departments such as Finance, Audit, President’s office, Legal, etc.
  • Contributes to internal collaborations to combine and prepare University Advancement data for accurate and timely submissions to professional organizations and benchmarking surveys.
  • Analyzes data trends and patterns to identify opportunities for process improvement, inform strategic decision-making, and contribute to the development of Advancement strategies.
  • Collaborates with the team to define, create, and enhance reports and dashboards that support evolving business needs.
  • Provides backup support for system integrations, including troubleshooting issues, analyzing data flow, and working with technical staff to resolve problems.
  • Contributes to the documentation of system integration processes and workflows.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of CRM systems and database concepts, preferably in a higher education advancement context (e.g., Blackbaud CRM).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills, with the ability to translate data into meaningful insights and recommendations.
  • Proficiency in data query and reporting tools (e.g., SQL, CRM reporting tools, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users and build collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team player.
  • Strong customer service orientation and commitment to user satisfaction and empowerment.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Two years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience with Blackbaud CRM.
  • Knowledge of data modeling techniques and data warehouse concepts.
  • Experience with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
  • Familiarity with higher education advancement practices, fundraising principles, and alumni relations.

Sedentary work primarily involving sitting/standing; communicating with others to exchange information; repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers; and assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. No adverse environmental conditions expected.
