Healthyhorns is the umbrella brand encompassing University Health Services, Counseling and Mental Health Center and Longhorn Wellness Center. Together, the departments work to enhance the health and well-being of students’ bodies, minds and lives in support of their academic and personal goals.

Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) is an accredited on-campus mental health facility dedicated to supporting the well-being of UT Austin students. CMHC offers a range of services, including assessment and referral, group and individual counseling, psychiatry and well-being services.

University Health Services (UHS) is an accredited on-campus medical facility dedicated to addressing the diverse healthcare needs of UT Austin students. UHS provides comprehensive services, including general medical care, public health education and specialty clinics.


The Longhorn Wellness Center is the health promotion unit servicing University Health Services and Counseling and Mental Health Center. Staff focuses on educating students about priority college health issues by hosting workshops and events, creating new tools, and collaborating with the campus community to enhance overall well-being.

Purpose:

Collaborate as part of the Public Information Team (PIT) Creative Team to provide strategic communications support for Disability and Access, the Disability Cultural Center and Longhorn TIES. The PIT Creative Team is the internal marketing and communication unit that oversees initiatives for Healthyhorns (University Health Services, Counseling and Mental Health Center and Longhorn Wellness Center), SHIFT, the Center for Students in Recovery, Disability and Access, the Disability Cultural Center and Longhorn TIES.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate as part of the Public Information Team (PIT) Creative Team to provide strategic communications support for Disability and Access, the Disability Cultural Center and Longhorn TIES.

Write and edit engaging content across a variety of platforms, including social media, print materials, digital content (including newsletters, photos, and videos) and outreach communications, maintaining a consistent voice and tone that resonates with the target audiences.

    Develop content calendars and campaign strategies, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and key messaging for Disability and Access, the Disability Cultural Center and Longhorn TIES.

    Serve as account manager across multiple social media accounts.

    • Develop on-brand, audience-centered content.

    • Post routinely and drive audience engagement.

    • Track social media metrics, report data to program and department leadership, and make data-informed decisions for social media strategies.

    Lead project management efforts, collaborating with departmental staff and PIT Creative Team members to ensure projects are executed on time, within scope and meet quality standards. Ensure all content is accurate, on-brand and delivered by the agreed deadlines.

    Work closely with other university departments to align communications strategies with university-wide initiatives, ensuring that messages are clear, consistent and meet the needs of target audiences.

    Ensure adherence to departmental and university style guidelines, ensuring all content work aligns with established standards for visual identity and messaging.

    Serve as a member of the Healthyhorns Public Information Team

    • Attend weekly PIT Creative meetings and bi-weekly PIT Committee meetings to share project updates and collaborate with the Public Information Team on new initiatives.

    • Consistently exhibit professionalism, teamwork, and exceptional customer service in all aspects of work.

    • Maintain a regular and punctual attendance pattern.

    Participate in other projects and activities as appropriate and assigned.

    Required Qualification

    • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Marketing or a related field.

    • Five (5) years of relevant (can also include internships, volunteer work, etc.) experience in communication.

    • Experience writing content for diverse audiences, with a focus on inclusivity, accessibility and clear communication.

    • Strong organizational and project management skills.

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams, stakeholders and external partners.

    • Ability to work effectively in both collaborative and independent work environments, managing multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and meeting deadlines.

    • Proficiency in relevant communication tools (e.g., social media platforms, content management systems, project management software) to efficiently manage projects and content distribution.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Communication experience in higher education or a large organizational setting.

    • Previous subject matter experience related to accessibility, disability services, disability culture or neurodivergence.

    • Experience in health communication, social marketing or communication for accessibility from a social or cultural model perspective.

    • Previous social media management experience.

    • Previous experience working with multi-discipline teams including program managers, designers, web developers, etc.

    Salary Details

    $50,000 annually + depending on qualifications

    Working Conditions

    • Use of computer keyboard and other tools and hardware used in design and graphics projects.

    • Occasional evening and weekend hours as needed for projects and events.

    • May work under pressure and rigid deadlines.
