Provides executive Mission leadership and deliver essential Mission Services to Saint Mary's Hospital (Waterbury, CT) and other community-based ministries.
The Mission Leader provides executive Mission Integration leadership as part of a Health Ministry leadership team, ensuring the successful assessment and integration of mission in all the ministries' activities, decisions, and strategies. The Mission Leader is responsible for the implementation of Mission activities and delivery of Mission Integration Essential Services, in alignment with system-level Mission Integration strategies and operational priorities. Mission Integration directed services include ministry formation, ethics, cultivation of the ministry community, and implementation of the Catholic Identity Assessment (CIA). In addition, the Mission Leader collaborates with the Manager of Spiritual Care to ensure the full integration of professional chaplaincy within the Ministry.
3 years Spiritual Care experience with Board Certification in Chaplaincy preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Core Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
Facilitates the integration of Trinity Health’s Mission and Core Values in all care settings and among all colleagues within designated Ministry(ies).
Implements and makes relevant system Mission Integration strategies, policies, and standard practices for the Health Ministry in accordance with operational plans and priorities identified at the system level. May supervise Mission Integration Consultant(s) to assist in these functions as designated by MSP.
Serves as an active member of Ministry executive leadership team(s), as designated by the MSP, strategic and organizational development teams, and other leadership groups as appropriate. Develops, participates in, leads and influences daily operational decisions and activities of the Ministry by contributing a mission-focused perspective, experience, encouragement, and challenge.
Works with stakeholders from acute care, community-based, and continuing care ministries to ensure the implementation of the Trinity Health Mission Integration operational plan, its priority objectives, and the assessment and improvement of Mission Integration Essential Services for the designated Local Community of Service (LCS).
Attends Ministry board meetings and provides mission-focused formation and education for the board on a regular basis.
Ensures that standard Mission Integration policies and procedures are implemented by the designated Ministry(ies).
Beginning with orientation of new colleagues, the Mission Leader ensures continuing ministry formation of leaders and colleagues.
Collaborates with colleagues in all operational areas (e.g., talent development, human resources, finances, planning, advocacy/government relations, communication and marketing, community health and well-being, etc.) to ensure that Mission, Vision, and Core Values are integrated into Ministry programs, policies, and procedures.
Oversees the implementation of all phases of Catholic Identity Assessment (CIA), a program to assess and deepen the organization’s Catholic identity.
Oversees and provides for Ministry organizational and clinical ethics programs, including the implementation of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services (ERDs), ethics facilitation, and the support of the Ministry’s Ethics Committee(s).
Serves as the executive sponsor and leader of colleague care and well-being for the Health Ministry.
Supports and coordinates mission discernment education and processes for Ministry boards and leadership teams.
Partners with the system Director of Spiritual Care in providing supervision and support to Manager(s) of Spiritual Care.
Oversees executive administrative duties related to designated Ministry’s Mission Integration departments and programs (e.g. spiritual care, ethics, ministry formation, colleague care, etc.) and others designated by its CEO, president(s), or administrator(s), with support from the MSP.
Implements plans for workplace spirituality that are aligned with Ministry and system strategies.
Support Ministry CEO, president(s), administrator(s) in establishing and maintaining strong and effective relationships with the Catholic diocese’s bishop(s) and/or their liaison(s) for health care. This is done with guidance from the MSP and in collaboration with system Mission Integration leaders and community & government relations leader(s).
Participates as an active member of the Trinity Health Mission Integration Forum.
Reports to the Mission Strategy Partner with responsibilities to Health Ministry CEO, president(s) and/or administrator(s).
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess an in-depth knowledge of Catholic theology and ethics particularly as applied to Catholic health care and as normally obtained through a Master's Degree in theology or a related field. Must have experience in nurturing the Catholic identity of an organization through understanding and applying Catholic social teachings. At least 3 years of clinical practice or ministerial experience in health care preferred.
Must have proven successful management and/or educational experience in an institutional setting. Must demonstrate skill and experience in strategic thinking, program/project management, process improvement and organizational/change management. Experience in health care setting preferred.
Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment including the ability to establish and maintain interdisciplinary relationships in a complex matrixed organization.
Must possess effective communications skills with the ability to relate well to individual persons and to make public presentations. Must have demonstrated listening skills.
Must evidence a working knowledge of the connections among spirituality, meaning and work as well as an appreciation of the process of religious formation and a respect for diversity of religious beliefs and culture.
Must possess a personal presence characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the Mission, Vision and Core Values of Trinity Health.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to set and organize own work priorities and adapt to them as they change frequently. Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles.
Must be able to travel to sites within a local area within Trinity Health (50%).
Must be physically present to Ministry sites as necessitated by the services being delivered. Occasional on-demand physical presence is required.
Must be able to provide oral presentations to virtual and in-person audiences.
Must comply with Trinity Health policies and procedures.
