Propulsion System Engineer | Nyx Moon
Job Description
Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.
We are seeking a talented Propulsion System Engineer to help us in our mission by contributing to the development of our future projects. In this role, you will be in charge of defining the architecture of cryogenic propulsion systems (LOX/LCH4) and designing their subsystems, working closely with our mechanical, thermal, CAD, and system engineers.
You will be part of the Future Projects Team and will report to the Nyx Moon Lander Principal Engineer and the Future Projects Lead. You will work in close collaboration with the Propulsion team and other Future Systems teams.
Key responsibilities:
Achieve conceptual and detailed performance calculations, systems analyses, and designs.
Specify and design the cryogenic propulsion system and reaction control system of future vehicles.
Transform system requirements into hardware concepts, trade implementations and architecture options.
Select equipment to meet the requirements.
Perform the propulsion analyses.
Define Delta-V and propellant budgets.
Perform fluid analyses.
Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to address interface requirements and resolve integration challenges.
Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
Define and maintain an integrated development roadmap at the system and subsystem levels.
Support integration activities and test campaigns.
What we would love to see from you:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Over 2 years of related experience in cryogenic propulsion system design, development, or testing for space applications.
Practical systems engineering mindset and approach.
Strong engineering fundamentals in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.
Experience in fluid analyses using classical hand calculations and simulation software (1D tools or CFD).
Familiarity with industry standards (NASA or ECSS) applicable to space propulsion systems.
Passion for advancing the commercial space industry.
Highly motivated to work in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up environment.
Fluency in English.
Fluency in Arabic, German, French and/or Italian (desirable).
