About the team and the role

The Aviation Commercial team, part of Aviation Growth and Group Strategy, is crucial for value creation at Sydney Airport, shaping its future revenue trajectory. They develop and execute strategies to maximise pricing and revenue with airlines, accelerate passenger growth, and increase market share domestically and internationally. Their efforts aim to secure agreements with target airlines under SYD’s new service-based pricing framework & manages day-to-day commercial aspects of relationships with airlines and industry bodies and oversees the commercial and strategic requirements of on-airport jet fuel storage and distribution facilities.

Reporting to the Head of Aviation Commercial, this role involves developing and managing aviation and fuel agreements, collaborating with the legal team, negotiating with airlines and fuel counterparts, and ensuring contractual obligations are met. Responsibilities include managing contract queries, identifying risks, providing recommendations, and ensuring proper contract execution. The role also focuses on implementing a contracts management system, advising internal stakeholders, drafting and applying policies, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive results and support team growth.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to

  • Developing and managing aviation and fuel agreements, negotiating terms, and ensuring all contractual obligations are met. 
  • Handle internal queries, identify risks, and ensure documents are accurate and compliant.
  • Update relevant teams on new agreements, implement a Contracts Management System, and ensure compliance with Modern Slavery policies.
  • Advising internal stakeholders on the legal and commercial implications of contractual terms, engaging and managing both internal and external stakeholders, and administering contract policies and procedures while maintaining compliance systems and registers.
  • Staying informed on legislative and regulatory changes, coordinating aeronautical and fuel projects/forums, optimising internal processes, and collaborating in a cross-functional team to drive outputs.
  • Collaborate across teams to build strong relationships and trust, listening to different perspectives, and driving outcomes through negotiation.

About you

  • Degree qualified in business, law or similar or related field, with 8-10+ years' experience in contract management experience. Experience in Aviation and/or infrastructure is highly regarded.
  • Proven ability to work successfully with cross-functional teams and drive outcomes, with knowledge of regulated assets and regulatory frameworks being highly regarded.
  • You possess strong negotiation skills, with experience in negotiating, executing, and managing agreements
  • You demonstrate strong commercial acumen, balancing commercial and operational imperatives with legal risk, and have expertise in contract law and management.
  • Highly collaborative, you uphold professionalism, discretion, and ethical standards, understanding the importance of confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure, with excellent written, oral, and negotiation skills, and the ability to produce clear reports and presentations.
  • Proficiency in building excellent business relationships with stakeholders, implementing strategies effectively, and being highly motivated, disciplined, organised, and detail oriented.
