Job Description:

The Director, CRE Relationship Management is responsible to develop and sustain business group partnership and trust on the Real Estate Portfolio.  Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Real Estate, the incumbent will establish and sustain a transparent real estate portfolio review with each Business Group leader and be the CRE focal point back to the internal groups (Leasing & Transaction, Strategy, Project Management, and Data & Analytics). 

This role requires a strong strategic leader with the ability to forge relationships across the organization.  Please note that this is a hybrid role requiring presence at our Toronto One York office.

What will you do:

Build and Sustain Strategic Partnerships with Business Groups (BGs) and Supporting Functions:

  • Build an inherent understanding of each BG’s needs and direction, understand the evolution of the needs as the business looks ahead, and understand the impact of market changes to the business. Creating a strong partnership with each BG where business strategies are well understood
  • Develop and maintain a real estate portfolio view for each BG and functional team which captures the ongoing evolution of the business strategy (opportunities and needs) and aligns it to the CRE portfolio strategy.
  • Key point of contact within CRE for escalations from the Business on Strategies, Projects (execution), and Operations.

Enable Effective CRE Strategy Development:

  • Create a centre of excellence where CRE can build strategic plans based on the understanding of how the business is evolving, and how the market is evolving.
  • Establish best practices that drive cost optimization for the organization.
  • Build and drive a strategic framework of early lease renewal conversation that looks forward at least 18 to 24 months.
  • Develop a Real Estate Portfolio Management forum that will ensure the businesses have a strategic view of their real estate Portfolio, and have the leverage to make decisions that can impact their future run rates and costs

People Management and Leadership

  • Oversee a team of up to 3 relationship managers and possibly the CRE Change Management team.  Coach, develop, and direct the team in driving the best outcomes for Sun Life.

What do you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Real Estate, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate real estate with a focus on relationship management, data & financial analytics, and project management.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proven experience in presenting to C-suite leaders.
  • Strategic mindset, ability to provide guidance on building out business cases.
  • Results-oriented, proactive, and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative and team oriented.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving.
  • Data analysis and interpretation.
  • Ability to build solutions that have flexibility to work through a number of market conditions
  • Strong ability to tell a story and pitch to executives.
  • Manage critical real estate escalations by being able to respond to critical incidents that may drive BCP needs.
  • Be a trusted advisor to the CRE VP and a key leader within the CRE Leadership Team

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
