About the Position

The Mississippi Department of Education, through the Academic Education Office, is seeking an Education Program Administrator to serve as the Executive Director for the Office of Compulsory School Attendance Enforcement (OCSAE). The incumbent duties include, but are not limited to the following: • Direct services for students impacted by chronic absenteeism, foster care, the juvenile justice system, and other at-risk circumstances. • Oversee compulsory attendance enforcement and dropout prevention strategies. • Coordinate cross-agency support for vulnerable student populations, ensuring educational continuity and compliance with federal/state regulations. • Supervise staff and liaisons responsible for youth-related interventions, including those in alternative and juvenile detention education. (This is a NON-STATE, SERVICE (X-16) position).

What you'll need to be Successful

The Executive Director should have extensive expertise and successful experience in improving school attendance at the school, district level, or state level, knowledge of federal and state laws governing homeschooling and compulsory school attendance, experience working with at-risk youth including students in foster care and the juvenile justice system, management and supervision of a large staff, and management of budgets (state and federal). The Executive Director will also be responsible for overseeing Dropout Prevention and supporting school districts in these efforts.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Master’s Degree and 7+ years of experience. **Agency Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of A Master’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university, and seven (7) years' experience in the special qualifications defined above, four (4) years of which must have included administrative supervision.
