Senior Infrastructure Automation Engineer

Remote - Michigan, United States

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Infrastructure Automation Engineer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be a technical leader with a strong background in designing, building, and maintaining scalable and reliable cloud-based platforms. This role requires deep expertise in automation, excellent communication and presentation abilities, and a comprehensive understanding of cloud technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust and scalable cloud platforms using infrastructure-as-code principles.
  • Develop and implement automation strategies for platform provisioning, deployment, monitoring, and operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement of our cloud infrastructure, focusing on efficiency, security, and cost optimization.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure platform capabilities meet application requirements and best practices.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on cloud technologies and automation, providing guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Present complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to enhance our platform capabilities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex platform issues, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Proven expertise in designing and implementing automation solutions using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or similar.
  • In-depth knowledge of Google Cloud Platform including their core services (compute, networking, storage, databases).
  • Strong understanding of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Go, Bash, PowerShell).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate technical information effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts, security best practices, and monitoring tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Nice to Have

  • Certifications in relevant cloud technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect).
  • Experience with site reliability engineering (SRE) principles.
  • Familiarity with various database technologies (relational and NoSQL).
