SUPERVISOR, QUALITY ASSURANCE (STARSHIP)
As a Supervisor, Quality Assurance, you will be responsible for ensuring that the quality and reliability of Starship propellant and gas system cleaning are assured. You will provide accountability to the Spacecraft Precision Cleaning team to drive a FOD free vehicle. You will be responsible for ensuring resource allocations and uninterrupted processing of SpaceX products and vehicles.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise floor activity (daily schedules and workflow)
- Resolve non-conformance issues, including documentation of assorted rework
- Lead and manage a staff of Spacecraft Cleanliness Technicians with scheduled and reactive direction to ensure maximization of support
- Mentor direct reports by performing frequent one-on-one counseling, providing constructive feedback, and handling disciplinary actions as necessary
- Review work instructions and planning requirements for clarification and efficiency improvements, and propose/implement change recommendations when needed
- Assess and vet the appropriate skillset needed to perform job requirements
- Identify/organize training programs, and maintain training matrix to ensure cross-training maximizes resource availability
- Perform vehicle cleaning and inspections as needed to ensure vehicle integration delays are mitigated
- Monitor labor hours/overtime, and implement improvement plans and time management with staff
- Accomplish production results by communicating job expectations; plan, monitor, and appraise job results
- Develop and implement cost reduction and efficiency improvement measures in department processes
- Work with production leaders to identify improvements, drive efficiencies, and develop interdepartmental relationships
- Facilitate corrections to malfunctions within process control points
- Initiate and foster a spirit of cooperation within and between departments
- Drive production risk identification and mitigation
- Work with Build Reliability leaders to prioritize and align on improvement projects
- Ensure product quality and conformance to specifications
- Maintain tooling and consumable supply inventory
- Read, interpret, and work from free form drawings and controlled documentation/processes
- Support recruiting efforts by performing phone interviews and on-site evaluations of inspector candidates
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or natural sciences with 2+ years of experience as a technician or inspector in a manufacturing environment; OR 5+ years of experience as a technician or inspector with 1+ years of experience in a quality role in a manufacturing environment
- 2+ years of experience leading teams, projects, and/or people
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience communicating across all levels of the organization, team-building, and driving influence
- Experience with applying lean manufacturing principles and efficiency methods
- Experience bringing teams and processes from development to production
- Experience reading/interpreting the following:
- Schematics: engineering drawings, circuit layouts, and parts list
- Cable harnesses: wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and parts list
- Mechanical assemblies: mechanical drawings and parts lists
- 2+ years of experience in management/supervision
- Experience adapting to constant changing work assignments in a fast-paced work environment
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends when needed
- Ability to travel – up to 10%
