Job Description
Spacetalk is an ASX-listed technology company dedicated to creating innovative and life-enhancing connected mobile services, wearables, and software for families and seniors. Our products enable people to stay connected, safe, and engaged no matter their age or stage in life; enabled by location, health and wellbeing data.
We are undergoing an exciting technology transformation, modernising our platforms to support international scale, and are seeking passionate engineers to join us on this journey.
With a global presence (already live in Australia, New Zealand, America and Europe) and an expanding product line, Spacetalk is evolving rapidly as we continue to scale our international footprint.
We are seeking an experienced Full stack software engineer to be another superhero in our engineering team, delivering rapid product innovation to support our mission… Safety at every stage of life.
Why this role matters
As a Full Stack Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in building and evolving our cloud-based backend services that power our suite of apps, APIs, and wearables.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will contribute to the design, development, and operation of our AI-enabled safety and wellbeing platform, with a strong focus on serverless architectures using Node.js, TypeScript, and AWS.
While the focus will be backend services, you will also have opportunities to work on frontend technologies (React, React Native) as needed, ensuring a well-rounded skillset and product knowledge.
This is a hands-on engineering role suited to a developer who thrives in scale-up, agile environments, and is keen to be part of a mission-led team driving safety innovation globally.
Technical Execution & Hands-On Development
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Node.js, TypeScript, and AWS (Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway).
- Contribute to frontend applications using React (and React Native, as needed) GraphQL.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Data Science, QA, and Mobile teams to deliver features that enhance safety, wellbeing, and user experience.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and DevOps practices, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and secure solutions.
- Support our migration from .NET/C# legacy systems to the modern tech stack.
Collaboration & Product Alignment
- Assist in improving our CI/CD pipelines (GitLab) and DevOps processes.
- Help evolve and implement best practices in software engineering, security, and cloud operations.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code suitable for production environments.
Key skills & Experience
Essential
- 3+ years of experience in Node.js/React software engineering, with a focus on backend services.
- Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript, including serverless development on AWS (Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, etc.).
- Experience with React for frontend web applications.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab preferred) and modern DevOps practices.
- Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, integration patterns, and microservices.
- Passion for writing clean, maintainable, testable code and working in agile teams.
Desirable
- Experience with .NET and C#, particularly during system migrations.
- Exposure to AI/ML-driven applications or IoT data integrations.
- Experience in building mobile applications using React Native.
- Exposure to GraphQL (using Apollo Server/Client)
- Experience in health, safety, or other regulated industries.
- Knowledge of Terraform, OpenSearch, or serverless frameworks (SST)
- Join an ASX-listed, mission-driven company driving the future of family and personal safety.
- Work on globally impactful products used by families, seniors, and carers worldwide.
- Play a key role in our technology reset and scale-up journey, adopting modern tools and cloud-native architectures.
- Be part of a collaborative, high-energy, and purpose-led team.
- Grow your career in a fast-paced environment with opportunities for progression into tech leadership roles.
