Job Description

This position provides strategic leadership planning and implementation of digital learning tools and instructional technologies across the institution. This position also oversees the training and support of faculty, staff, and students in the effective use of learning technologies. This position will meet regularly with key positions on campus to assess the learning technology needs.


Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in a related field required; doctoral degree preferred
  2. Minimum of five years' experience working in an academic setting
  3. Adept in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, )
  4. Proficient in learning management system (LMS) administration, including user and role management, content publishing, and system integrations
  5. Experience with emerging AI technologies for education preferred
  6. A thorough understanding of the academic needs and learning styles for both traditional and adult undergraduate learners and graduate learners
  7. A thorough understanding of academic programming and pedagogical/ andragogical principles for both traditional and adult undergraduate learners and graduate learners
  8. Knowledge of current classroom technologies, recognized as essential for delivering effective, engaging, and pedagogically sound instruction in contemporary higher education environments
  9. The ability to work harmoniously with faculty, staff, and administration
  10. The ability to organize schedules, tasks, and staff

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist faculty in the design and production of face-to-face, online, and hybrid/HyFlex course offerings using the LMS
  2. Support faculty in making courses accessible and providing faculty training in areas such as implementing UDL principles into their courses and course design
  3. Support faculty in implementing High Impact Practices into their course design
  4. Support faculty in designing learning experiences for a culturally and academically diverse student body
  5. Partner with faculty to assist with integrating faith and learning in alignment with the educational mission of Simpson University
  6. Train faculty, students, and staff on the LMS, providing end-user support and offering regular in-person trainings
  7. Maintain effective communication related to LMS updates and improvements
  8. Oversee the online student orientation process for all programs and present at physical orientations as requested
  9. Train faculty on the use of classroom technology equipment
  10. Oversee and train faculty on academic attendance taking and grade submission procedures
  11. Serve on the Technology Advisory Group, and other groups as assigned
  12. Oversee the administration, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the LMS
  13. Configure the LMS, including user roles, permissions, and course structure
  14. Ensure LMS uptime, performance, and compliance with security policies
  15. Monitor the LMS usage, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions proactively
  16. Monitor the data integration between the LMS and Student Information System (SIS)
  17. Manage API/LTI integrations within the MS
  18. Partner with deans/ academic directors, program chairs, academic offices, and IT to support the expansion and development of online course offerings
  19. Assist the Office of Academic Affairs in the development of academic policies and procedures, specifically related to the integration and use of technology in pedagogy and instruction
  20. Work closely with IT, Registrar, HR, and IR to align technical capabilities with organizational needs
  21. Verify that FERPA training certification is up to date for all individuals with LMS access to student records
  22. Evaluate emerging technologies in higher education, including AI applications, for pedagogical effectiveness in face­ to-face, online, and hybrid/HyFlex course modalities
  23. Stay current with national trends related to emerging instructional delivery systems and emerging artificial intelligence solutions
  24. Oversee the online submission and posting process of textbook information
