We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.
A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.
WHY PEOPLE SCIENCE AND ANALYTICS?
The People Science & Analytics team at Roblox supports our People, Places, & Systems group in optimizing the talent lifecycle, encompassing talent identification, data-driven competency development, and the scientific management of learning, development, and well-being throughout their tenure with our company. We apply behavioral science and rigorous research methods to shape people strategies, and we partner closely with internal technical teams to evaluate and guide the use of emerging technologies, including AI and large language models, across our people processes.
Our team works to deliver a wide range of insights and solutions for Roblox, from developing industry-leading hiring assessments and conducting job analysis to performing both quantitative and qualitative workforce research, as well as architecting data analytics systems and tools. Reporting to the People Scientist Manager within People Science and Analytics, you'll join a team of expert people and data scientists. Your role will contribute across our portfolio of scientific initiatives and help ensure that our tools and programs are built on valid, evidence-based practices. You will also play a critical role in evaluating emerging AI- and LLM-based tools used across our people processes. This role is ideal for someone with a master’s degree in I/O Psychology or a related field, 2-3 years of experience in applied settings, and a desire to contribute to high-impact research that shapes the employee experience at scale.
The People Science and Analytics team is focused on collecting and using qualitative and quantitative data to guide decisions and to design and support Roblox's approach to leadership, people development, and organizational design and culture.
This role is based onsite at our HQ in San Mateo, CA.
You Will:
- Work with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, software engineers, game designers, and cross-functional groups to implement science-based and data-driven solutions across the entire range of People Operation domains.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies and AI tools, partnering with technical teams to ensure that cognitive and behavioral science is thoughtfully applied in tech-driven contexts.
- Evaluate the validity, effectiveness, and potential biases of AI- and LLM-enabled tools developed by internal teams for use in performance management, employee development, and selection systems.
- Conduct qualitative research activities such as job analysis interviews, think-aloud sessions, focus groups, job shadowing, and cognitive task analyses to inform assessment design, structured interviews, and other talent-related initiatives.
- Hand-code and synthesize qualitative employee data, such as open-ended survey responses, performance self-reflections, manager feedback, meeting summaries, and work samples, using structured rubrics and behavioral frameworks.
- Support execution of applied research projects led by People Scientists across the employee lifecycle, helping to design studies, gather data, and analyze outcomes that shape internal programs, tools, and practices.
- Prepare research summaries, reports, and data visualizations that distill findings for diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
You Have:
- Master’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Behavioral Science, Cognitive Psychology, Learning Science, or related field.
- 2–3 years of experience in applied behavioral or organizational research in a business or consulting setting.
- Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated content and outputs, including assessing their alignment with psychological constructs, fairness, and validity.
- Experience or familiarity with tools and platforms that support AI/ML workflows, such as prompt testing environments, annotation platforms, or chatbot interfaces.
- Solid understanding of research design, including survey methods, experiments, validation, and program evaluation.
- Familiarity with organizational psychology concepts and practices such as job analysis, performance measurement, and program evaluation.
- Experience using tools like R or Python for analysis, working alongside data professionals to interpret statistical output.
- Comfort working in highly technical environments and collaborating with engineers, product teams, and designers to inform implementation of research-driven tools.
- A strong sense of curiosity and adaptability when working with emerging technologies, especially where research design intersects with product experimentation.
- The ability to be flexible and quickly adapt in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
You are:
- A team player. You take initiative, are proactive, and drive toward team goals.
- Low-ego and execution-focused. Humble and action-focused, you take pride in bringing others’ ideas to life, contribute reliably without needing to lead, and thrive in roles that focus on delivering a shared vision.
- A strong communicator. You express ideas clearly, ask thoughtful questions, and contribute to productive discussions. You support the shaping of research narratives and are comfortable communicating with teammates to ensure alignment and shared understanding.
- Self-motivated and curious. You consistently seek to deepen your skills by staying current with emerging research, improving your analytical toolkit, and learning from others. You actively explore topics that are new to you, expanding your knowledge to enhance your work. You’re energized by ambiguity and approach new problem spaces with humility and a learning mindset.
- A researcher. You have strong training in research design and both quantitative and qualitative methods. You’re confident executing studies, managing details, and ensuring rigor - supporting projects from design through implementation and analysis.
