Role Title: Sr. Systems Engineering Manager – Rail & Transit Division
Role Summary:
Serves as the Sr. Systems Engineering Manager, Design Lead, or Systems Integration Manager for Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) or major rail transit projects. Responsible for the design and integration of wayside, onboard vehicle, and supporting systems, while managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and ensuring seamless coordination across all technical disciplines. Provides oversight across all project phases—from design through testing and implementation—to deliver a fully integrated, operationally ready system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and integration of key rail systems, including CBTC or conventional signaling, interlockings, train detection, onboard systems, and wayside infrastructure.
- Oversee vehicle system integration, coordinating interfaces between onboard technologies and existing or new rolling stock.
- Serve as Systems Integration Manager, ensuring end-to-end compatibility across all subsystems, including train control, communications, SCADA, traction power, and operations control.
- Develop and maintain system architecture, interface control documents (ICDs), and integration plans across all disciplines.
- Manage cross-functional coordination among systems designers, contractors, vehicle teams, and client stakeholders; support configuration management, change control, and issue resolution.
- Lead system-level requirements verification, test planning, test execution, and support for certification and safety assurance activities.
- Support operational readiness planning, cutover strategies, and risk management to ensure system performance and reliability throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review and respond to design submittals, RFIs, and change requests, ensuring alignment with project scope, requirements, and stakeholder expectations.
- Monitor technical progress, identify integration risks, and lead resolution of issues impacting schedule, cost, or performance.
- Act as a technical liaison between engineering, construction, and operations teams to drive coordinated and successful project execution.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
4-year degree in Engineering (or related field) and 20 years or more of related work experience, including
significant managerial experience of a large group of Engineers, Designers, and technical support
personnel. Professional Engineer registration with active membership in a professional engineering
society may be required.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Proven ability for managing a large group of engineering/technical personnel and directing work
involving complex technical situations, excellent written and oral communications skills, and a
thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations are required. Must also possess a thorough
knowledge of current technology and the capabilities and efficiencies of specific engineering software
for use in completing engineering assignments.
