The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) provides a vibrant and nurturing environment for staff and students to carry out inter-disciplinary research in key areas such as Computational Materials Science, Characterisation Materials Science, Defence Composite Materials, Functional Composite Materials, Energy, Nanomaterials, Low Dimensional Materials, Biomaterials Materials, Biological Materials, Bioinspired Materials and Sustainable Materials.

We are seeking a highly motivated and interdisciplinary researcher to advance the development of integrated sensor arrays through innovative materials design and validation techniques. This role supports NTU’s strategic direction in cutting-edge sensor research by contributing to the development of high-performance, multimodal sensor systems with strong application potential in digital healthcare, robotics, and smart environments. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team driving transformative sensing technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, synthesize, and characterize novel organic or peptide-based materials for chemical and biosensor applications.

  • Integrate functional materials into flexible and miniaturized sensor arrays for multimodal sensing.

  • Validate sensor performance through rigorous experiments, including specificity, sensitivity, reproducibility, and environmental stability.

  • Collaborate with material scientists, chemists, and electronic engineers to develop integrated sensor platforms with high spatial and temporal resolution.

  • Assist in the prototyping of sensor devices and contribute to the optimization of fabrication processes.

  • Maintenance of lab or equipment or supplies that include procurement and liaison with suppliers.

  • Assist or produce high quality reports and documents that consolidate research findings

  • Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present at international conferences.

  • Contribute to the mentoring and guidance of junior researchers and students, fostering an environment of learning and innovation within the project team.

Job Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Biological Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.

  • Expertise in organic synthesis, peptide engineering, and nanomaterial design.

  • Proficient in analytical techniques such as UV-Vis, FL, NMR, MS, DLS, TEM/SEM.

  • Hands-on experience with biological validation techniques, including cell culture, molecular biology assays, and imaging.

  • Demonstrated ability to design and fabricate device prototypes for innovative applications.

  • Strong track record of publications in high-impact journals.

  • Capable of conducting independent research while effectively collaborating in a multidisciplinary environment.
