About the Program

Northwestern Medicine is investing in the future of digestive health with the launch of a state-of-the-art, 20,000-square-foot Center for Advanced Endoscopy at Central DuPage Hospital. The Center for Advanced Endoscopy will function at the level of an academic medical center, equipped with leading-edge technologies and procedures including third space endoscopy, endobariatrics, interventional EUS, complex ERCP, flexible robotic endoscopy, and pioneering applications of artificial intelligence in endoscopy. Patients will benefit from concierge-level care from referral through treatment, reflecting Northwestern Medicine’s core values of Patients First and Care Where You Live.

 

Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Nurse Clinician to partner closely with internationally-recognized endoscopists in their pursuit to advance patient care for those with complex digestive health diseases. The Nurse Clinician plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care within a multidisciplinary environment. This position requires exceptional clinical judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, patients, and administrative teams. The Nurse Clinician will provide direct and indirect patient care, perform assessments, implement nursing interventions, and lead patient education efforts within the ambulatory/clinic aspect of the center.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Assessment

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments in-person and via telephone
  • Implement nursing interventions based on clinical findings and patient needs
  • Administer medications, perform phlebotomy, and prepare lab specimens

Patient Education & Advocacy

  • Initiate and coordinate patient education tailored to individual needs
  • Ensure patients understand care instructions and demonstrate return understanding
  • Participate in community outreach, support groups, and educational programs

Care Coordination & Communication

  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless care delivery
  • Triage and prioritize incoming calls and MyChart messages using clinical judgment and service standards
  • Optimize clinic and lab schedules for MDs and APPs
  • Communicate with external agencies and facilities as needed

Emergency Response & Safety

  • Manage urgent and emergent medical situations per institutional protocols
  • Operate emergency equipment and ensure compliance with OSHA and safety standards
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment

Leadership & Support

  • Serve as a clinical resource for staff and physicians
  • Delegate tasks appropriately to Medical Assistants and Patient Care Liaisons
  • Provide just-in-time coaching and contribute to staff development

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and legible documentation in the medical record
  • Demonstrate effectiveness in curating outside records
  • Uphold confidentiality and adhere to protocols for release of medical information
  • Recommend and help implement new policies to improve patient care and experience

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate’s degree in Nursing
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • State Licensed Registered Nurse for State of employment
  • Certification in Basic CPR
  • 2 years of relevant clinical experience in an acute or ambulatory care environment

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (may be required for certain positions)
