Job Description

In 2012, Lambda started with a crew of AI engineers publishing research at top machine-learning conferences. We began as an AI company built by AI engineers. That hasn't changed. Today, we're on a mission to be the world's top AI computing platform. We equip engineers with the tools to deploy AI that is fast, secure, affordable, and built to scale. Whether they need powerhouse GPU hardware on-site or the flexibility of cloud-based solutions, we've got the horsepower to make it happen. Lambda’s AI Cloud has been adopted by the world’s leading companies and research institutions including Anyscale, Rakuten, The AI Institute, and multiple enterprises with over a trillion dollars of market capitalization. Our goal is to make computation as effortless and ubiquitous as electricity.

About the Job

As Lambda continues to scale its hyperscale AI data center footprint, power availability, sustainability, and cost predictability are critical to our long-term infrastructure success. The Manager – Power & Utility Development will play a foundational role in designing and executing the energy strategy that underpins our global deployments.

This position will focus on utility coordination, onsite generation, grid interconnects, renewable energy sourcing, and evaluating next-generation solutions to traditional diesel backup, such as battery storage, fuel cells, and microgrid integrations.

You’ll work in close partnership with Lambda’s real estate, legal, and engineering teams—ensuring that every site has a reliable, efficient, and scalable power solution tailored to the evolving demands of AI workloads.

What You'll Do

Utility Engagement & Grid Interconnection

  • Lead early utility engagement for new site evaluations and infrastructure planning

  • Coordinate substation access, transmission studies, interconnect applications, and timelines

  • Maintain active relationships with IOUs, municipalities, and co-ops across multiple markets

Onsite & Self-Generation Strategy

  • Evaluate and structure on-site generation opportunities including natural gas, fuel cell, solar PV, and battery storage systems

  • Assess site feasibility for microgrids, CHP systems, or hybrid energy architecture

  • Partner with engineering teams to align generation options with facility electrical design

Sustainability & Green Energy Procurement

  • Support power purchase agreement (PPA) execution and green energy certificate strategies
Recommend regionally viable approaches to 24/7 carbon-free energy sourcing

  • Interface with renewable developers and IPPs to identify long-term procurement partners

Innovation & Generator Alternatives

  • Evaluate emerging alternatives to traditional diesel gensets including HVO, hydrogen fuel cells, long-duration batteries, and flywheel systems
Stay abreast of regulatory trends, incentive programs, and environmental compliance that influence Lambda’s site energy profile

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with legal to structure utility service agreements and generation contracts

  • Support financial modeling for total energy cost of ownership and procurement ROI

  • Align all energy strategies with Lambda’s delivery roadmap and sustainability goals

You

  • Self-starter with a proven ability to independently drive and build programs in power systems engineering, utility development, or energy infrastructure strategy

  • 7+ years of experience in power systems engineering, utility development, or energy infrastructure strategy

  • Direct experience with utility coordination, substation development, or interconnection processes

  • Familiarity with data center or industrial load profiles, resiliency standards, and electrical redundancy planning

  • Exposure to onsite generation systems such as natural gas engines, solar, BESS, or fuel cells

  • Ability to interface confidently with utilities, permitting authorities, and engineering consultants

  • Strong analytical and communication skills with a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset

 Preferred Experience

  • Experience with diesel generator alternatives and green backup technologies

  • Knowledge of PPA structuring, REC markets, and grid decarbonization policy

  • Background in infrastructure permitting, EPC coordination, or environmental compliance

  • Familiarity with liquid-to-chip cooling impacts on power usage and site design

Salary Range Information

Based on market data and other factors, the annual salary range for this position is $148,000-$212,000. However, a salary higher or lower than this range may be appropriate for a candidate whose qualifications differ meaningfully from those listed in the job description.
