Role Overview:

The Inside Sales Engineer supports the IMI Americas Petrochemical segment by providing customized product solutions that meet customer needs, technical requirements, and profitability goals. Inside Sales responsibilities include delivering timely, customer-focused quotations that drive profitability for IMI, along with efficient order management. This role involves working closely with the Outside Sales team to respond to RFQs, support aftermarket sales strategies, and help customers adapt existing IMI equipment or replace competitor products with IMI technology. The position requires both technical understanding and strong collaboration skills to deliver value-driven solutions.

This role will work directly with clients to ensure deliverables fall within the applicable scope and budget. He or she will coordinate with other departments to ensure all aspects of assigned projects can be executed as planned and will request resources to fill the needs of the project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility for responding to Request For Quotation(RFQ)’s with the preparation and delivery of proposals to customers within defined lead times
  • Coordinates with customers, Outside Sales, and Channel Partners in a specific sales region to convince prospective customers of desirability and practicability of valve products & services offered in plant level sales opportunities
  • Plays a key role in the development and implementation of sales strategies for sales opportunities in the region of responsibility
  • Reviews customer’s technical and commercial specifications to identify the most suitable products
  • Responsible for data integrity of opportunities and assets in Salesforce
  • Review existing IMI equipment drawings and bill of material to identify customized scope of the proposed solution and prepare detailed cost estimates for revenue and profit forecasting
  • Responsible for accurate sizing, design selection, and error free proposal preparation
  • Conduct and lead the proposal review process with the applicable Application Engineer team to ensure the proposed custom valve solution, materials selections, and actuator design meet the application requirement.
  • Partner with Operations (Engineering, Project Management, and Manufacturing) to solve technical and commercial issues that arise during the proposal stage, to assure processes, techniques and time schedule will meet customer needs
  • Reach out to internal buyers and external vendors for RFQ’s, identifying value chain and optimized procurement solutions to meet budget, delivery and quality requirements.
  • Provide direct customer support by conducting technical presentations and/or problem solving at customer facilities, conducting technical presentations at customer seminars, and attending technical review meetings
  • Provide support for our sales team by reviewing non-standard applications/products, interpreting specification requirements, reviewing P&ID & piping layouts, conducting technical risk reviews and field problem reviews, and evaluating deviation from standards
  • Providing material and training support for our sales team, including creating the value proposition for standard applications/products, creating customer-focused presentations, and training of our sales organizations
  • Leverage our technical advantage to increase sales and profitability
  • Analyses history of projects won and lost to arrive at appropriate market pricing for each account. 
  • Coordinates with other functions such as finance, contracts, logistics, warranty team and key stakeholders to assimilate information for demand planning, risk management, project execution and contract flow down. 
  • Book awarded purchase orders in timely manner ensuring all order details align as quoted, per clients’ orders and per IMI’s standard positions
  • Assist Project Management in order management enabling smooth project handoff
  • Participate actively in influential technical associations and publishing technical articles in leading industry magazines
  • Ensure that knowledge gained in the field from our customers or competitors flows to IMI organizations

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar technical field.
  • Four to seven years of experience in a related field; or combination of education and experience
  • General understanding of petroleum industry as well as the basics of isolation valves and applications. Experience working with refinery plants is a plus.
  • Computer Skills - Proficient with MS office products (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience in Salesforce is a plus. Experience with technical programs for flow control elements and actuation is preferred (knowledge of SolidWorks, AutoCAD is a plus)
  • Technical skills – Ability to read manufacturing drawings is desired, P&ID’s and understand refinery plant systems & process applications.
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
  • Strong oral & written communication skills in English to include the ability to provide group presentations in a seminar environment and capable to coordinate highly technical discussions with project engineering team – bilingual is a plus
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills
  • Creative thinking/problem solving skills necessary
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and planning skills including attention to detail and ability to multitask and set priorities for self and others based on IMI business needs.
  • Must work well in a dynamic team environment with emphasis on communication and soft skills

Pay range: $85,000 – $90,000

Within this range, individual pay is determined based on skills, experience, and qualifications relative to the job requirements. Base pay information is aligned with market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws, if applicable.

 

Bonus eligibility: This position is also eligible for a variable incentive pay component, separate from base salary.
