iMentor is seeking a FAFSA Support Summer Melt Fellow to assist 12th grade students with college enrollment and prevent summer melt during July and August. This part-time, temporary remote position requires strong communication and support skills to guide students through the FAFSA process.
Responsibilities: Assist students with FAFSA completion and college enrollment, track student progress, provide 1:1 virtual support, and engage families as needed.
Skills: Experience with FAFSA and financial aid, strong written communication skills, familiarity with customer support software, and proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, experience supporting first-generation college students, familiarity with post-secondary landscapes, and a passion for education equity.

Compensation: $28 - $28 / Hourly
As a FAFSA Fellow, you will be an integral part of iMentor’s Program and Partner Success team, which plays a crucial role in supporting students, mentors, and partners. Fellows will connect with and support the transition of 12th grade students into college with the goal of preventing “summer melt” – the phenomenon where students who have been accepted into and intend to enroll in college in the fall, fail to matriculate. This role requires adaptability, empathy, and flexibility as students’ needs and circumstances change. This is a remote, part-time, temporary role for the months of July and August.
Distribution of Work
- FAFSA & General Enrollment Support (50%)
- Data Tracking and Analysis (20%)
- Team Collaboration (15%)
- Other duties as assigned to support FAFSA completion (15%)
Detailed Responsibilities
- Leveraging iMentor’s customer support systems to conduct outreach, track progress, and follow up around student challenges
- Utilize multiple methods of communication with students such as text, email, video chat, etc.
- Provide 1:1 virtual support for FAFSA completion, submission, and verification
- Assist with college selection and enrollment processes
- Engage with families when necessary to ensure understanding of financial aid and completion
- Analyze data to identify students who would benefit from intervention and support
- Track interventions and monitor student progress
- Use data to drive decision-making and improve support strategies if needed
- Participate in onboarding training and weekly check-ins with manager
- Troubleshoot financial aid challenges with student and institutional financial aid staff
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Experience with FAFSA and financial aid, college-and-career counseling, positive youth development practices, and progressive project management responsibilities
- Experience supporting first-generation college students
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences.
- Familiarity with customer success software (Zendesk) or willingness to learn
- Passion for education equity, mentorship, and college persistence, with a strong interest in social-emotional development.
- Familiarity with one or more of the post-secondary landscapes in Baltimore, Chicago, and New York City
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite and Zoom
Compensation & Logistics
- Compensation rate of $28.85/hour before taxes and other deductions
- This is a part-time role, up to 28 hours per week
- This is a seasonal role beginning July 1st and ending August 31st.
$28.85 - $28.85 an hour
