Job Description

ICON is seeking a Senior Design Project Manager to lead groundbreaking Design-Build projects that leverage ICON’s proprietary 3D printing technology to redefine how we build. This role requires someone with a strong design background and deep knowledge of construction technologies and processes, capable of managing complex projects from concept to completion. As a Senior Design Project Manager, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality buildings that align closely with project scope and design intent. You’ll play a critical role in managing the entire design-build lifecycle, from early planning and pre-construction through execution and delivery. Success in this role requires both strategic leadership and hands-on execution, particularly during the pre-construction and construction phases. You’ll collaborate closely with internal ICON teams—including design, construction, operations, and R&D, as well as external stakeholders such as clients, architects, engineers, trade partners, local authorities, and inspectors. This role demands strong coordination skills, creative problem-solving, and a deep understanding of integrated project delivery. This role is based at ICON’s headquarters in Austin, TX, and will report to the Senior Director of Building Design.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as the primary point of contact with clients starting from pre-contract and continuing through final delivery of the product. 
  • Initiate and respond to communication between Client, ICON Design Team, Consultants, ICON’s Purchasing Team, Superintendents, and local municipalities.
  • Review consultant drawings and details to ensure a successful interface between the  3D-printed walls and any non-printed elements of the building. 
  • Coordinate with software engineers, print technicians, and construction operations to ensure the successful implementation of wall construction in the field
  • Work with Designers and the ICON Purchasing Team to coordinate the development of complete design packages, specifications, and cost estimates that lead to accurate budgets across multiple building products.
  • Provide regular project updates to ICON executive team
  • Develop well-thought-through and achievable design and build schedules
  • Lead effort to develop detailed scopes of work and contracts to ensure project budget constraints are met, and expectations are clearly communicated for the successful execution of subcontractor scopes.
  • Develop and own the project construction schedule and hold all project team members accountable for the performance of their tasks.  
  • Review all site and construction drawings for accuracy and appropriate coordination.   
  • Monitor project budget performance and take action in advance to prevent overages.   
  • Collaborate with the Print Operations team to efficiently deliver ICON’s 3D-printed building product.
  • Regularly review trade partner work with your Construction Managers and require corrections when work does not meet ICON standards.  
  • Manage, review, and report all project financial obligations, purchase orders and invoices.
  • Utilize prescribed project management software and tools in accordance with ICON standard operating procedures.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of experience in complex, multi-disciplinary design and construction projects
  • Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited institution
  • Proficiency in Revit, Rhino, Google and Adobe Suites.
  • Experience coordinating all phases of design (schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration) with all disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing)
  • Experience producing and organizing construction documents for complex projects, with an emphasis on integrating building systems
  • Strong experience in Construction Administration, including RFI and submittal review, and other general construction-related correspondence
  • Working knowledge of the International Residential (IRC) and Building (IBC) codes, ADA guidelines, Fair Housing Act (FHA), principles of concrete design & construction, construction specifications, and test methods and standards associated with the testing of building envelope systems (AAMA/ASTM)
  • Desire to work with a highly collaborative team, on a quickly evolving product, and in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive problem-solving skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to multitask
  • Interest in sustainable design, curiosity for novel architectural technologies, and desire to perfect the craft of construction
  • Demonstrated proficiency using project management software tools.
  • The ability to interact well with others in person, verbally, and in writing.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a passion for precision.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and remain composed under pressure. 

 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Professional license, contractor's license, PMP certification, or other related professional certifications
  • Experience in residential design and planning
  • Experience incorporating unique products and technologies to deliver construction projects
  • Experience successfully managing the full life cycle of a large-scale construction project in either residential (single and/or multi-family), commercial, or military construction (MILCON).
