Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Permitting Specialist to support the development and construction of solar energy projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating, preparing, submitting, and tracking all necessary permits at the local, state, and federal levels. You will work closely with project developers, engineers, environmental consultants, and regulatory agencies to ensure full compliance with all applicable permitting requirements for solar energy installations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and identify all required permits and approvals for utility-scale and/or distributed solar and battery storage projects.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications, including environmental assessments, site plans, and technical documentation.
  • Track the status of permits and ensure timely approvals to meet project timelines.
  • Serve as the point of contact between the company and permitting authorities (AHJs, state agencies, federal regulators, etc.).
  • Attend meetings, hearings, and site visits with permitting agencies or stakeholders as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including development, legal, engineering, and construction to ensure alignment and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and permit databases.
  • Monitor changes in regulations and permitting processes that could impact solar projects.
  • Assist in resolving permitting-related issues or delays during project development or construction phases.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Renewable Energy, Public Policy, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of permitting experience in renewable energy, construction, land use, or a related field (solar preferred).
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations (e.g., NEPA, CEQA, Clean Water Act), zoning laws, and building codes.
  • Familiarity with permitting processes for utility-scale solar projects, DG/rooftop solar, or energy storage systems is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to travel to project sites or agency meetings as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with GIS, AutoCAD, or permitting platforms.
  • Knowledge of interconnection and utility permitting processes.
  • Familiarity with real estate or land-use entitlements.
