Job Definition:
We are seeking a seasoned Engineering Director who thrives in challenging and fast paced environments to lead our Hybrid Cloud organization’s newly established Puerto Rico site. This Director’s charter will be to build and develop a high performing team of Hybrid Cloud and AI engineers, execute highly visible and game changing product development initiatives, and drive impactful engineering solutions across HPE’s portfolio. As a site leader for Hybrid Cloud, you will be tasked to hire and manage a dynamic and talented team across various engineering disciplines, including but not limited to, AI Engineering, Cloud Engineering, QA and Automation, Devops, and SRE. You will be responsible for operational success and day-to-day engineering activities, as well as setting strategy and direction for major functions such as Innovation and Incubation, SW Quality, SRE, and API engineering. In addition to site operations and cross team development, you will own a significant number of measurable functional, operational and strategic goals, and contribute to the overall strategic definition of the Hybrid Cloud engineering function with strong business acumen. As a Director at HPE, you will act as a key advisor to executive management in influencing the strategic direction of the business.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee the Puerto Rico Site daily operations, strategic planning and cross-functional team leadership for Hybrid Cloud.
- Recruit, mentor, and manage teams of AI/ML engineers, QA Engineers, Design Engineers and innovation specialists to deliver cutting-edge solutions.
- Continuously evaluate new tools, platforms, and frameworks in AI/ML to drive competitive advantage and operational efficiency.
- Ensure alignment with corporate goals while fostering a high-performance culture, operational efficiency, and employee engagement.
- Lead the development and execution of AI/ML strategies that align with business goals and drive innovation across products, services, or operations.
- Create strategic and tactical operations and resource plans, goals, and priorities for assigned organization based on business and technology roadmap and functional objectives.
- Engage with various senior leaders across the organization, program managers, R&D, support, Quality, product managers, technical leaders and executives to communicate program status, escalate issues, and guide and influence strategic decision-making
- Manage senior relationships and escalated issues with outsourced partners and suppliers, including setting expectations regarding deliverables, product quality, schedules, and costs; ensures that organization is effectively leveraging outsourced resources.
- Identify opportunities for and drive organizational initiatives and programs to support business process improvements and cost reductions.
- Provide overall people-care management for direct reports, including hiring, setting and monitoring of annual performance plans, coaching, and career development; drives and fosters organization-wide performance standards, expectations, and practices to support ongoing team member and process development.
Professional Experience & Qualifications
- Significant work experience as a director or similar position working across multiple stakeholder organizations, with at least 10+ years of people leadership experience specific to SW and Cloud engineering
- Solid experience leading SW development across storage, networking, on-prem, and SaaS is a must
- Experience in setting up geographically distributed sites.
- Must have a strong background in software development lifecycle including cloud infrastructure.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and tools like JIRA.
- Prior experience in cloud product development and deployments; end to end ownership and accountability
- Solid understanding of fundamental AI and machine learning concepts, including supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and statistical modeling.
- Extensive business acumen, technical knowledge, and industry experience encompassing one or more engineering, technology, and product domains.
- Demonstrated abilities to drive transformation across a business with exceptional skills in the management of change
- Strong leadership skills, including coaching, team building, and conflict resolution
- Advanced relationship management skills, including partnering and consulting with senior management and executive roles for internal and external partners.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools and techniques to analyze and present insights gained from AI and machine learning models. Create meaningful visualizations and effectively communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with software engineering principles, version control systems (e.g., Git), testing methodologies, and agile development practices is valuable. This helps ensure the robustness, scalability, and maintainability of AI systems.
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field, follow research papers, attend conferences, and contribute to the AI community. A passion for continuous learning and a drive for innovation are essential traits.
Education
- First level university degree or equivalent experience required, electrical or computer engineering preferred. May have advanced university degree.
- Typically, 15 or more years of related work experience, including 10 years of people management experience.
