Position Summary
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for overseeing critical accounting functions, including general ledger management, inventory and fixed asset accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting within a manufacturing environment and experience leading month-end close processes.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the monthly close process, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Prepare and review financial statements and variance analysis, explaining deviations from budget and forecasts.
- Maintain all account reconciliations and supporting schedules; resolve discrepancies as needed.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice coding, cash application, credit memos, and collection monitoring.
- Manage sales tax compliance, including maintaining tax tables, ensuring accurate collection, and filing monthly remittances.
- Supervise the disposal and tracking of assets, including nonconforming goods, obsolete inventories, and fixed assets.
- Post and review corporate credit card transactions, ensuring policy compliance.
- Maintain and modify chart of accounts and general ledger coding structure.
- Oversee inventory processes: daily production entries, cycle counts, BOMs, assembly transactions, cost variances, and monthly adjustments.
- Post payroll journal entries and ensure accurate labor cost allocation.
- Generate standard and custom reports for internal departments such as production and sales.
- Serve as QuickBooks Administrator and support system users; track expenses and reports through Paylocity.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to streamline processes and strengthen financial controls.
- Ensure internal control documentation is up to date and followed.
- Assist in preparing information for external auditors during quarterly reviews and year-end audits.
- Ensure secure handling of financial data, including regular database backups.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold organizational values.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Solid knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Strong general ledger management and financial close experience.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office, especially Excel (Pivot Tables, Lookups, advanced formulas).
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to multitask.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across departments and with senior management.
- Professional, proactive, and adaptable to a dynamic work environment.
