Job Description

The Foundation

We are the largest nonprofit fighting poverty, disease, and inequity around the world. Founded on a simple premise: people everywhere, regardless of identity or circumstances, should have the chance to live healthy, productive lives. We believe our employees should reflect the rich diversity of the global populations we aim to serve. We provide an exceptional benefits package to employees and their families which include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with no premiums, generous paid time off, paid family leave, foundation-paid retirement contribution, regional holidays, and opportunities to engage in several employee communities. As a workplace, we’re committed to creating an environment for you to thrive both personally and professionally.

The Team

*This position is a limited-term position for 9 months. Relocation will not be provided.

The Team
The Gender Equality Division’s mission is to ensure women and girls in Africa and South Asia can enjoy good health, make their own choices, earn their own money, and be leaders in their societies. When women and girls have an equal chance to thrive and lead, everyone benefits.

The Maternal, Newborn, Child Nutrition & Health (MNCNH) Team is responsible for an end-to-end approach focused on product discovery, development, introduction, and scale of novel and existing high impact products for women, adolescent girls, and children in low-resource settings. Our approach targets underlying biological vulnerability and seeks to intervene as early as possible in the life course. We fund development on a core set of products that range in type (including drugs, foods, microbes, risk algorithms, and devices), technical risk (from novel concepts to product substitutions), and development phase (from early discovery to late-stage efficacy testing and implementation research).

We also support launch and introduction planning of a subset of our core products that are further in the development process to accelerate country adoption and uptake in the global architecture and drive impact at scale. These products target pregnancy risk, maternal undernutrition, prematurity, neonatal encephalopathy, child wasting, child neurodevelopment and maternal morbidity.

Our team is multidisciplinary and includes physician scientists with backgrounds in obstetrics and pediatrics, perinatal epidemiologists, and professionals in neurodevelopment, nutrition research, engineering, global health, strategy development and industry-experienced market and commercialization experts. We emphasize in-country partnership to integrate the local context into research and development.

Your Role

The Program Officer (PO), Statistical Analysis & Modeling (9-month LTE) plays a critical role in translating data to strategic insights aimed at accelerating MNCNH impact in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). Reporting to the Deputy Director, Epidemiology, Surveillance & Data, the PO will conduct data analyses, build and run impact and cost-effectiveness models, synthesize data, and curate analytic outputs for visualization and distillation of insights for strategic use and dissemination to internal and external stakeholders. The PO will partner with technical stakeholders across a range of disciplines to optimize analysis and modeling plans.

The PO will be responsible for operationalization of data science workflows and processes, including data cleaning, harmonization, and project management of data analysis/modeling pipelines. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and communication skills, curiosity about the intersection of data and strategy in global health philanthropy, and a collaborative working style.

What You’ll Do

Model maternal, newborn, and child nutrition and health burden of disease and intervention impact to inform strategy and resource prioritization

  • Analyze primary and secondary data to provide insights into epidemiology and disease burden
  • Run statistical and mathematical models of intervention impact potential and cost-effectiveness
  • Extract data from various data sources, perform exploratory data analysis, and manage, clean, and aggregate data
  • Create data visualizations and aggregate outputs for strategic materials, presentations, and updates to the MNCNH team and broader foundation leadership
  • Collaborate with other data scientists and MNCNH team members to advance the team’s data and modeling priorities
  • Assess quality and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques
  • Manage documentation of modeling and analysis processes

Investments & Data Integration

  • Support data and modeling investments by tracking progress and synthesizing key data and insights
  • Guide translation of data into insights and identify opportunities for investment, course correction, or acceleration.
  • Contribute to the design of monitoring and evaluation frameworks and track and analyze MLE process and impact metrics across the portfolio.

Additional projects and activities may include

  • Design, develop, and maintain large-scale data processing pipelines to iteratively provide insights at scale using cloud computing capabilities like Azure Databricks.
  • Analyze implementation and product procurement data, including integration into existing burden models to assess potential vs. observed coverage and impact
  • Support integration of MNCNH burden and modeling engine with family planning team needs
  • Devise internal analysis of undercounted years lived with disability associated with causes predominantly or exclusively affecting women
  • Use AI LLM models to build burden and impact modeling platforms and dashboards to visualize results and enable user-driven scenario runs

Your Experience

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in public health, epidemiology, data science, or related field.
  • Strong experience using R for data management, statistical analysis, and compartmental modeling
  • Prior work with population-level disease burden modeling, especially with estimates produced by the UN Inter-agency Group and/or the Global Burden of Disease study
  • Familiarity with causes of disease burden among mothers and newborns
  • Experience designing or supporting monitoring and evaluation frameworks, data systems, or insights generation in global health or development.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and tailor messages to senior audiences.
  • Familiarity with LMIC contexts and working with data or health systems in low-resource settings is a plus.
  • Interest in AI and aptitude for tracking relevant applications within the evolving field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across disciplines and integrate data and strategy perspectives into cohesive plans.
  • Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills, especially in cross-cultural and multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving landscape with shifting priorities.
  • Curious, humble, and proactive learner with a deep commitment to improving outcomes for women, children, and families.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.
