Software Engineer
Job Description
About Eyebot
Eyebot is an outcome-focused technology company on a mission to make vision care accessible to everyone, equally. Headquartered in Boston’s North End and backed by top investors and the National Science Foundation, our 90-second vision test kiosk is reshaping how vision care is delivered.
If you’re passionate about solving big problems and building the future of vision care, we’d love to hear from you.
About The Role
We’re looking for a sharp, versatile Software Engineer to help build and scale the brains behind Eyebot’s self-serve vision kiosks. You’ll work at the intersection of embedded systems, computer vision, and cloud infrastructure, collaborating with hardware and product teams to bring novel healthcare technology to life.
You’ll write software that talks directly to custom hardware, integrate camera and sensor data, build user-facing flows, and ensure the system runs reliably in production. This role is hands-on and full-stack — from low-level hardware integration on Jetsons and Raspberry Pis to cloud connectivity and OTA updates.
Note: This is a full-time, in-office role based in Boston. We work together 4-5 days a week to support rapid prototyping and cross-functional collaboration.
What You’ll Do:
Build and maintain software that powers embedded vision systems on Jetson and Raspberry Pi devices
Integrate image sensors, motor controllers, and lighting into real-time applications
Write and optimize code for device control, image acquisition, and peripheral communication
Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to debug and validate new prototypes
Develop robust firmware interfaces, APIs, and protocols to bridge hardware and high-level systems
Write clean, testable code with solid documentation and attention to maintainability
Example Projects
Develop a real-time application for motorized vision alignment with live camera feedback
Build a robust image capture pipeline for vision testing and telehealth diagnostics
Implement and refine a cloud-connected telemetry system for fleet monitoring
Design a fault-tolerant OTA firmware and software update system for deployed kiosks
What We're Looking For:
Technical
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field
Proficient in Python and C/C++ for embedded Linux environments
Experience with Linux-based edge devices (Jetson, Raspberry Pi, etc.)
Familiarity with hardware communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, USB)
Comfortable debugging across software, hardware, and system layers
Experience building robust systems for production environments — not just prototypes
GitHub, portfolio, or links to past work demonstrating relevant projects
Portfolio, GitHub, or project documentation demonstrating relevant hardware work
Personality
You’re energized by fast-paced environments and excited to grow with a startup that’s scaling quickly
You take ownership of your work and care deeply about quality
You hold yourself (and your teammates) to a high bar
You follow through on commitments and take responsibility for outcomes
You bring a low ego, collaborative mindset and a sense of humor. You are easy to work with, open to feedback, and able to keep perspective even when things do not go according to plan
Bonus
Familiarity with camera sensors, image tuning, or optics
Exposure to real-time control systems or robotics
Experience working with regulated or safety-critical devices
Background in scaling software for hardware products in the field
What We Offer:
Flexible work schedule with unlimited PTO
A culture where every idea is welcome, no matter how out there it sounds — that’s how Eyebot got started
Full health, dental, and vision insurance
Commuter support and wellness benefits
A collaborative office environment in Boston’s North End, with regular team lunches and a great waterfront location
The chance to build products that improve lives and redefine how vision care is delivered
