About the Organ Donation Coordinator

The Organ Donation Coordinator (ODC) is responsible for responding to heart beating ventilated referrals, assessing organ donor suitability, and enhancing the donation process. Maintains donor records, gathers and provides information regarding family status to assist the Donor Legacy Advocate. Participates in case start up, pre-OR preparation and OR documentation. 

Responsible for postmortem care and other associated duties while in the OR, assisting hospital engagement and strategy department with post-donor hospital communication, providing donor family support, and communication in conjunction with donor legacy services.

Demonstrates an understanding of the legal and hospital requirements for death declaration and organ donation.

On-call Requirements: Shares 12-hour “on-call” responsibility with other organ donation staff as determined by on-call schedule.

Ability to fulfill all on-call obligations; case work up to 12+ consecutive hours in levels of high donor/referral activity.

Owns or has unlimited access to a motor vehicle while on call.

Occasional out of town travel required.

Requirements

Minimum Education/Licensure:

Associate Degree in Nursing, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP), or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Basic Life Support (BLS).

Minimum Experience:

2 years direct clinical experience in critical care or emergency/pre-hospital care.

Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Transplantation and Donation Sciences.
