General Job Description 

Dogwood Industries is seeking a hands-on Design Manager to lead our growing Design and Engineering teams. This is a critical leadership position responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of our engineered-to-order solutions, from initial design concepts through release to manufacturing. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of strong technical aptitude, team leadership, and project execution experience in a fast-paced, custom manufacturing environment. As Dogwood continues to scale, this role will be central to building standardized processes, developing our design and engineering talent, and ensuring successful delivery of structures for Dogwood’s customers.


Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team of Design Engineers and CAD Designers
  • Set clear expectations, coach and develop team members, and conduct performance reviews
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and solutions-oriented culture across the team
  • Allocate resources and prioritize tasks to balance production and engineering needs

Design & Engineering

  • Ensure accuracy and consistency in engineering and detailing output across all product lines
  • Standardize modeling practices, BOM development, drawing packages, and metadata management using systems and tools
  • Drive the development and enforcement of SOPs, modeling libraries, and best practices for engineering documentation
  • Support ERP integration by ensuring designs and BOMs are structured for clean data flow and repeatability

Project Execution

  • Partner with the Master Project Scheduler and Project Managers to coordinate drawing release schedules and technical deliverables
  • Ensure engineering and design deliverables align with project milestones and factory production timelines
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues during design, manufacturing, and field installation phases
  • Maintain visibility on all active projects to reduce delays, drawing changes, and production bottlenecks

Process & Systems Improvement

  • Accountable for the engineering exceptions, design revisions, and continuous improvement pipeline
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders (Production, Projects, Procurement, Quality) to eliminate waste and improve handoffs
  • Champion initiatives to improve training, onboarding, and standardization across the team
  • Oversee the implementation and ongoing development of design/engineering metrics to drive data-driven decisions

Requirements

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in design engineering or detailing in an engineered-to-order or custom manufacturing environment
  • 2+ years of leadership experience managing technical or design teams
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, PDM/Vault, and/or AutoCAD; experience managing drawing standards and model libraries
  • Familiarity with structural steel fabrication, architectural detailing, or modular building systems
  • Strong understanding of BOM structuring, modeling conventions, drawing release workflows, and manufacturing/installation constraints
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to translate complex schedules into clear, actionable plans for cross-functional teams

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

This position requires moderate physical activity, primarily in an office environment but may include visits to jobsites to collaborate and inspect materials.  To perform the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly seated at a computer desk with the option to stand, is utilizing the telephone frequently, and participating in meetings with colleagues. There are stairs in the office. In the factory setting, you may inspect and handle materials and be exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors.

Compensation

$130,000 - $140,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Location

This is an onsite position at the Dogwood Bothell Office at 17706 Brickyard Rd NE, Bothell, WA 980. Travel to Dogwood’s Sedro-Woolley and Everett Factory office, as needed.
