To support a multi-chain retail organization in obtaining products and materials for retail sales.  Responsible for procurement of merchandise within the hardware and automotive categories along with other areas as assigned.  Takes full responsibility of category performance regarding product turnover and inventory levels. 


Essential Functions/Duties:  

  • Review product lines and categories for sales opportunities. 
  • Attend trade shows in local, regional, and national locations. 
  • Negotiate product purchases and programs with vendors. 
  • Perform sales, margin and inventory analysis for categories and vendors. 
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with vendors and suppliers.  
  • Coordinate purchase activities to meet all store location needs. 
  • Review and maintain proper inventory levels to attain sales goals. 
  • Plan annual advertising strategies and plans for respective categories. 
  • Recommend cost saving proposals including alternative sourcing and vendor evaluation criteria. 
  • Learn and fully utilize available technology to maximize job efficiency. 
  • Other duties pertaining to the procurement of products, goods or services as assigned by management. 


Requirements

 

Required Skills: Requires excellent written and oral communication skills.  Must be professional in accordance with company objectives to solve complex retail business related problems in creative and effective ways.  Ability to analyze data and provide in-depth analysis regarding various factors related to procurement. 


Required Experience: Minimum of 5+ years work related experience within a procurement environment (buying experience) with strong foundation of skills, knowledge, and experience of buying with proven record of success.  Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and/or other analytical spreadsheet tools, inventory management, product selection, pricing and review, advertising/marketing and freight. 


Required Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field; or equivalent experience.
