Job Description
The Design Project Manager is responsible for leading and delivering design services for assigned project(s), ensuring alignment with client goals, project objectives, and performance metrics such as quality, schedule, and profitability. This role oversees multidisciplinary design teams, manages project scope and budget, and ensures technical excellence and adherence to design standards. Key responsibilities include client relationship management, coordination across internal disciplines and external partners, quality assurance, and proactive issue resolution. The Design Project Manager plays a critical role in creating both a positive client and employee experience that supports repeat business and long-term partnerships. On occasion, the Design Project Manager will be expected to lead design efforts on a design-build or integrated design and construction project and be responsible for supporting estimate development, managing design scope against overall cost and schedule objectives, interface and report out to a GC team in support of overall delivery, and ensuring design team performance enables successful delivery of the overall project. Assignments may include single project assignment or a portfolio of multiple projects of varying complexity.
Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of design services from proposal development through construction administration for assigned project(s)
- Develop and manage design scope, schedule, and budget to meet project and client objectives
- Coordinate the work of internal design disciplines and external consultants to ensure cohesive and high-quality deliverables
- Serve as the primary design point-of-contact with clients, managing communication and expectations throughout the project lifecycle
- Facilitate design reviews and ensure adherence to project requirements, codes, and standards
- Monitor and manage design performance metrics, including profitability, schedule adherence, and quality
- Oversee design quality assurance and ensure compliance with internal and client QA/QC procedures
- Support the development and review of technical content including drawings, specifications, and design narratives
- Lead risk identification and mitigation strategies during design phases
- On occasion, lead design efforts on integrated design-build projects, including scope alignment with budget and schedule, supporting estimate development, and ensuring design performance enables successful project delivery
- Collaborate with construction teams, clients, and other stakeholders during design to support constructability, permitting, and procurement strategies
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related design discipline
- 5+ years of experience managing multidisciplinary design projects
- Demonstrated ability to lead design teams and manage project delivery from planning through construction documentation
- Strong understanding of design processes, codes, and regulatory requirements
- Proficient in design and project management software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, MS Project, Deltek Vision, or equivalent)
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Ability to manage client relationships and facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration
Additional Qualifications
- Professional licensure (e.g., PE, RA) preferred
- Experience working on design-build or integrated project delivery teams
- Knowledge of cost estimating, value engineering, and schedule alignment during design
- Familiarity with construction means and methods to support coordination with field teams
- Experience in Life Sciences and/or Food & Beverage industry
- LEED accreditation or knowledge of sustainable design practices preferred

Additional Information
The pay range for a candidate selected for this position who is based in Orange County is typically $131,695 to $210,712 annually. The base salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. The selected candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, including but not limited to work location, qualifications, and relevant experience. In addition, CRB offers a total rewards package that includes comprehensive insurance coverage as well as the opportunity to participate in one or more annual incentive programs based on company and individual performance.
